Fawlty Towers is the obvious winner.

Coupling is hilarious
Before Kitchen Nightmares, there was Boiling Point and Beyong Boiling Point (available on youtube..highly recommended)
Chef was mentioned above. Was that the series featuring Lenny Henry? If so, good show.

Top Gear and Fifth Gear (or is that not BBC? still Brit TV)
watched a lot of Cash In The Attic at one time

Are You Being Served. I was watching a few weeks ago and Captain Peacock's stroller definently had cuffed sleeves

Coupling (but only seasons 1 - 3, once Jeff was gone, so was the humor)
Blackadder
Green Wing (only just started watching it)
Topgear, of course
Reddwarf, surprised it hasn't been mentioned more.

Yep-- loved it. Though Season 3 was getting out of the kitchen and it was losing steam.

Amen to that. My friends still contest that Oliver has his moments but I know a smoke screen when I see one.

Neither was Father Ted or Prime Suspect, two of the shows you mentioned...

I think BBC drama is probably the best in the UK, beating ITV and the rest by a long way. Fawlty Towers, The Office and Red Dwarf are all classics that come to mind, as well as modern series such as Spooks and my guilty pleasure, Hotel Babylon.
