Can I get the Skye 2 in whiskey shell? What is the difference in colour between whiskey shell and dark brown dordovan?

Yes, I just got my Skye (leather sole) in the mail that is in whiskey shell (a recent MTO). It would be a simple matter of switching out the sole for dainite and other details. I have the skye 2 in brown cordovan as well. I will try to take some pictures when I get a chance and post them.

To get a Skye 2 in whiskey shell you'd have to do an MTO (or wait a few years for another GMTO here).

To get a comparison, here are my Skyes in whiskey shell:




And here are my AE Bayfields in dark brown shell:



Both Crockett & Jones and Allen Edmonds get their shell from Horween, so I imagine this is pretty accurate (although finishing might vary slightly, and every piece of leather is different anyways).

The skye 2's dark brown will be much darker than whiskey. You can get whiskey or other colors, but there will be an MTO or GMTO upcharge. You probably could get the skye in black cordovan for the right price if you want black.

For those that don't want to compare the changes. Welt has changed from flat to storm welt and no pull tab to with one.

Could be, but as you say, it's a matter of opinion. In PMs, most people have preferred storm welt, though, and when it comes to hooks, some people like it and some really don't want it. And I would say that the dislike for hooks has been stronger than the love for them. (And if hooks were added, I assume some would have preferred exposed eyelets with the hooks instead of blind ones.)

The pull-tab: I just went with the design from the previous MTO as shown in mdubs' photos. I guess it could be taken away again before we submit the final makeup, but it's been quite a struggle just to get 12 names so I don't want to make any last-minute changes.

Agree that changing it now would cause trouble. We should go with the make up that everyone that has confirmed their orders has agreed upon.
