Ace NYC was on Gilt Jetsetter not too long ago. I stayed in a Medium/Deluxe room last month for $149/night. Lovely Room and pretty cool boutique hotel overall.

If you just want cheap, you might want to try lastminutetravel.com. I never used it, but the prices seem good and it is pretty easy to figure out what hotel they're talking about if you read the description.

Look up the St. James Hotel on 45th Street. Kind of dumpy, but cheap and not gross.

I would highly recommend the "Name Your Own Price" feature on Priceline and also to check out kayak.com.

PM me for the straight poop on booking an NYC hotel on the cheap, including your price range. I've done it a bunch of times in the last few years and am something of a priceline savant as a result.
