I bought it. I'm just out of college as well and luckily I was able to pay cash for it, so the car is paid off. If I had to make payments I would have gotten a cheaper car.

Not a fan of Audi's beige interiors because they do everything beige, including the dash. I like when the dash and carpets are black, but the seats are beige.

Picked up the GL450 over the weekend. Big difference between the LR3 and the GL, more noticeable the more I drive. The technology is very impressive as well.

Glad you are enjoying the MB! I hope it serves you well.

That transmission and engine, vs. the LR3, is pretty damn impressive, isn't it? The ride?

The more I drive the more I really notice the difference. It really drives more like a sedan than a 5.5K SUV. Having driven BMW's and Mercedes before and then the LR3 I caught myself doing 75 and felt like I was doing 45, dangerous. I am still impressed with the electronics and voice control, which has worked really well. Final decision was silver with black, and glad I did as the silver with tan was in the garage and was not the best combination.

Silver with tan in general does not really work, I agree, unless it is a dark colour, close to gray or gunmetal. Good choice.

I drive a 2 door Wrangler and this past week I put my daughter's car seat in it and loaded her up to go somewhere for the first time since she was born last April (we have always taken my wife's car since then). Wow! What a PITA! It was enough to almost make me drive directly to the dealership to trade it in for a 4 door version.

Luckily I calmed down and decided that if I only drive her around in the Jeep once every 8 months, I can survive without giving up my 2 door.

Sad note of the times: Bristol Cars, the very small volume English luxury coupe builder went into administration last month, which seems like a Chapter 11-type status in the UK.

Hardly surprising - have the sold a car in 2011? They never released the Fighter and they can't sell the Blenheim. I don't think anyone will even buy the name from them, as there isn't much history behind it.

If it weren't for their website being "current", I would never have believe that was a modern car "lineup". They should have gone the way of the dodo about 30 years ago.

Thinking about leasing a car and looking to the forum cognoscenti (and Piobaire as resident lease pimp). Have been thinking about A5, Q5, 5 series or E-class for a 3 year lease. I'm fairly unrealistic, so I've been hoping to get a 5-series, A6 or E-class if I could get one for around 500-600 a month (with no cap reduction), although that looks to be all but impossible. Failing that, I'd probably jump into an A5 or Q5 which I know can be had for about $500. Having done a modicum of research, I realize the most important factor for me is the residual value, which is the only reason the E-class is in the running (seems like Mercedes often have much better residual than BMW and Audi although right now it looks to be only about 1% better over 3 years).

Is it basically the case that the money factor and residual are non-negotiable and I have to do my best to get them on purchase price? I can live with 10k miles a year, so I'll be going in that direction to increase the residual. To be clear, my goal is to have the lowest 3-year total cost - don't care if that means big upfront payment or not. I honestly wouldn't mind paying the full 3-year amount up front if it would save me a decent amount of money, I just don't want to pay more than $18k for the full 3-year term.

I'm in the bay area, so any advice on dealers/folks to contact would be appreciated.

^ In that price range, E Class is your best bet, based on my knowledge and least shopping.
