Should I infer from this thread that Carmina would be a step up from Cheaney and Trickers? (sorry for the hijack)
Not really. Trickers(espescially their boots) are considered pretty much on par with C&J/Carmina. It's just a different aesthethic with rounder/more bulbous country last with bigger brogue holes, while C&J/Carmina are more refined. C&J/Carmina should be better than Cheaney though. Trickers leather is made for harder use and should be plenty strong and good enough. I think we sometimes are so hung up on what leather is "better", when in reality it's just different. Different makers want different leather properties or have traditions on using different types of leather.
One thing I've noticed though, is that English makers like AS/C&J/EG tend to use thicker leather/lining than their Spanish counterparts.
