What do you guys think of getting braces for adults? My teeth have never been straight and I've always been self conscious of it. I've always wanted to correct them, but could never afford it when I was younger. I'm 24 years old now and was wondering if its too 'late' to be correcting them now. I don't see many adults with braces nowadays..

I was about that age when I got mine. Makes you look kinda younger. Start combing the high schools again, ha-ha.

Unless you have a "suit/tie" job it shouldn't make much of a difference. I think I looked into those invisalign and, at the time, it took longer for your teeth to get straigtened with those. I think with the regular braces, I was able to get rid of them earlier by about 2-3 months.

My 60 year old father had invisaline... they're like a clear mouthguard that fits very tightly.

His teeth were straight in about a year and change. You could never really tell he had them on.

Get them. I too was self conscious. I was 40 when I finally did. Had to learn to smile. And FYI, chicks in their 30s-40s think they are sexy. Seriously, it was a reminder of their youth and boys with braces. So no Invisaline, just strap on some metal and go.

I've also considered getting them now that I am finished with school. I have a large overbite due to spacing on my upper teeth while my lowers are fine (straight, no spacing). Fortunately my upper teeth are straight and just need to be closed to correct the overbite.

I went and saw an ortho who suggested that I simply veneer my uppers because I already have a good profile. However, I was worried that this would give my teeth the dreaded "chiclet" mouth. I was thinking of going with Invisalign, but someone mentioned to me that it doesn't do well with closing gaps.

I also grind my teeth, so some of them are pretty tiny. It's probably not the most cost effective route, but it seems to me that the best course would be getting Invisalign, then veneering whatever teeth are ground down/too small.

I know metal braces are probably the most tried and true method to get the best smile, but having them in my early 20s would suck. Especially because I am working toward a career soon :/

I'm 24 and have braces. I am still in school, and if all goes well I'll have them off before applying for big boy jobs next summer. My advice .. see an orthodontist, and they'll give you a run down of the treatment you'll need. Decide then. Don't go into it thinking "I need invisalign" or what not. And Invisalign can't fix everything. I had pretty bad crowding in my lower teeth. I asked about invisalign and was told I'd have to wear braces on the bottom for 6 months before even starting invisalign. You can get braces with ceramic brackets, and they really don't stand out as much as you'd think. And if your orthodontist says you'd only need braces for a year or so .. then why not? Way cheaper then invisalign, and contrary to popular belief, girls aren't turned off by them.

My clear ceramic brackets cost $100 more then standard metal ones.

Hmmm... i'll set-up an ortho appointment then. I hope my insurance covers orthodontics.

Is it possible to get braces on one row of teeth? My top row is straight as an arrow... My bottom row is a mish mash.

No they don't. The elastic's change colour, but they are the same elastics you get with metal brackets. And for me .. the only place the elastics change colour is the on the side teeth. The front 6 (top and bottom) are as clear as the day I got them and remain that way as long as I brush my teeth consistently.
