It depends. In nature, 3000 years, but that could have been created yesterday on a 10-year-old tree. It's probably 30 - 40 years old.

I named it "Bonesaw the Bonsai"!

Need to trim up some of the left side above his friend for some balance. Pruned it a fair bit since I got it Saturday.

The big tree is a mini tropical jade, the little pot on the left is just some succulent to balance the main pot. It won't last more than a few weeks. Not sure what I'll replace it with.

Thinking for my next bonsai I'll do something on a rock.

PS: This is not my house.

I would lose the figurine. Not sure about back budding on a jade but if it does I would crop the **** out of it to get some ramification. I believe they're slow growers so you're in for a bit of a wait.

I didn't want bonesaw to get lonely!

From what I've read Jade grows quickly. Still not sure what I'd like it to ultimately look like other than not as thick on the left.

A quick search shows that it's not a great candidate for Bonsai.

Ficus may be a better choice for indoors.

Seriously, lose the figurine.

I use to keep some genuinely nice bonsais, definitely had a lot of fun with them but between that and my coral reef aquariums it just became too much maintenance to deal with. sold or gave away everything I had..... except the pony tail palms. highly recommend them to anyone even though they have nothing to do with bonsai other than the pot because they are as close to a zero maintenance plant as you can get

So I went to the monastery where I bought my first bonsai. My mother viciously murdered that one when she was charged with tending to it while I was abroad. Anyway, I purchased a replacement. Pics of that will follow. Here are some of the ones at the monastery greenhouse. A 100 year old ficus. They go to great lengths to protect it.

When this bad boy isn't dormant, it is something else.

My haul.... Succulent for the bedside table (gets plenty of light)

OK, so this is a neat rock... there is a little hole, the succulent will go in there, and a little boat on top. It looks neat except the boat blends in with the rock too much IMO. Boat located upper left. Some where is waldo type ****.

Bonesaw II. Will go in the blue pot. Also have a new succulent for the green pot.

When I've planted the succulent in the rock, a trimming from Bonesaw will go in the leftover pot.
