Barbour Jacket Alteration Question

I own a Flyweight Beaufort (not made anymore, but details can be found here) as I live in Florida and the heavier Beaufort seemed like overkill for most of our winter days. I find myself traveling more than I used to and I am in need in something heavier as my Barbour doesn't have the option for a zip in liner.

Instead of buying second jacket, i thought it might be possible to have my tailor sow in zippers in each side to allow for a vest. I don't know if this is possible, but for me, work make my Barbour the perfect jacket. Anyone know if something like this would work?

thanks
