She is completely idealologically opposed to me ever purchasing a pair of RM Williams boots. She much prefers Chukka style boots.

Chukka's and boots both have a place in a wardrobe IMO. I have suede chukka's, and they are a casual friday favourite.

Plus, I love this cowboy train of thought. Definitely getting a pair of RM's now

Hmmm...how cheap? Might be time to catch-up with my mates in banking.

Any relation to Toorak Cowboys?

As for RM Williams I wear them all the time to work, or with a suit. The work boots are good for the weekend standing on the sidelines at my sons Rugby matches.

Aside from the bespoke option what real choices are there in Oz? I know that you can get C&J in Sydney and I do get Church shoes from Herrings on line but unless your travelling os and make it a point to stack up on shoes this country is a wasteland for footwear. Maybe the situation is different in Melbourne, but I can tell you in the rural hinterlands RM rules.

Not sure if they do working buttons but Favazzo G & A in Trinity Arcade on the first floor. Pretty sure they do the tailoring for Parker & Co downstairs.

I'm happy with the suit, my only issue is the shoulders are a bit too structured for my liking, but that is a personal thing. It's quite a slim fit as well so keep that in mind.

Full canvas, Super 140s, highish armholes for $500... not bad

Just got back from lunch in the Yarra Valley with the GF and her family for her birthday...

e of pork belly only to have the replacement come out cold in the middle?

(before you ask, four of us ordered the pork belly and each one had about 1cm of fat and 4cm of meat, except mine which had 4.5cm of fat and 0.5cm of meat - first time I have ever sent something back if you don't count the raw chicken parma at the corner hotel).

checkstar - I haven't collated all your linen pants posts but I have a sneaking suspicion that those pants will be your downfall at work, at home and at play..

I'm not saying you'll be shot by Judy Moran but I'd be careful.

A tailor once told me that the plastic inserts in the collars of shirts - even the higher end ones - shrink over time with exposure to heat, especially when you iron them. Warm washes wouldn't help either I'd imagine.

RMs are great for travelling; they're sturdy, can be dressed up and down, and you can get away with them with a suit (though I never do this at home funnily enough) as much as with a pair of jeans.

I have a pair of the brown mock crocs a got a couple of years ago, and they've had some hard wear. I should post a few pics in the shoes with character thread...

I wandered through DJs today and they have about 2 or 3 shirts with club collars, one all white, one blue horizontal stripes with white collar and one grey black with white collar I think. I forget the brand but they had those collars that look a bit too narrow to me. That said the all white and white on blue stripes looked ok - smart but not OTT.

Thanks mate. Do you happen to know the price? And which DJs?

I tend to use the metal collar stiffeners. TM Lewin shirts have narrow openings and require you to buy their collar stiffeners, so I picked up a few pairs with my last order. For my other shirts (eg Modern Tailor), I use Rhodes and Becket metal stiffeners - for some reason I have collected something like six pairs over the years.

I am always copping grief from the GF for leaving them in the shirts when I throw them in the wash - she seems to get back at me by leaving tissues in her clothes and doing likewise.
