Experiences with Douglas Laing? A local store has a "Made for Gemrany" limited release of them discounted from 70€ to 40€. It's 15 yo OMC.

I'm fairly new to all of this. Just turned 21 in October, since then I've always had a bottle of JW Black I love that stuff.
I'm going to try to get a bottle of Glenfiddich 12 that was recommended to me by a friend. Any other single malts that are pretty affordable?
Douglas Laing is an independent bottler (not a distiller) and has a huge line of bottlings from multiple distilleries. Even if you just focus on the OMC line, there are still tons of distilleries to choose from and there will be a wide range of hits and misses. I've had superb OMCs and serious disappointments.
If you're talking specifically about that bottle of Arran you posted, you can read Serge Valentin's (well respected whisky persona from France) opinion here: http://www.whiskyfun.com/archiveaugust11-1.html#040811
Glenlivet 12yr and Glenfiddich 12yr frequently get recommended as a first single malt but honestly they are not as interesting as JW Black. There are plenty of more interesting bottlings that are affordable... just depends on how adventurous you are and how much you're willing to spend. Do you know if you're looking for something more sherried or heavily malted or peated or salty or... ?

(...) You are pretty experienced in Bourbon, right, Thomas? I find that Scotch doesn't work for me every day. The surprise in the things that you liked included Highland Park, which has a little bit of that peat. Dry, hot, peppery and spicy does describe some of the Island malts in Black, though, so I can see where you are going. Glenfarclas is one you might really enjoy -- rich like HP and sherried like Macallan.

Also, I quite like the Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix, but it seems to be getting rarer/more expensive - I bought a bottle for 90 earlier in the year, now the cheapest i see is $160! What tha **** this is like AAPL stock or something?
