Only one more needed!

Gentlemen, what's the status of this proposed MTO? I saw couple of votes for snuff, and several for chocolate/dark brown -- has that issue been resolved? Are you still looking for participants?

We're still trying to get additional participants. The makeup was initially proposed for chocolate/dark brown suede. Some folks, including myself, would alternatively be interested in snuff. Add your info to the google spreadsheet if you're interested in being included:
http://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ar2rc84qazhmdDFGX1NkSnN6R2xpa2duS2xCTi1uMkE#gid=0. I don't think we have enough consensus yet to move forward but we can work on that.

I was in on this one from the beginning - I actually put that google doc together - but at this point it's pretty much worthless to even try and get a group MTO made with Alden. When was the last time a successful MTO was completed? I'm guessing its been a couple years. Places like LS can't even get a standard pre-order for a non-shell shoe done in less than 2 years, so these group MTOs have sort of become a lost cause with Alden. Better to try and get something done with a more accommodating brand.

Besides, in looking at that google doc again, there isn't much consensus as to what people want. Speedhooks, suede color, welt, eyelets, and pull tab are split pretty closely down the middle.

Last I heard, opinions is that it will never happen. Too many people signed up for it and Alden presumably won't do orders that are too big. And that's aside from the presumed scarcity of cigar. We can always hope and it won't hurt as we didn't put down any money.

Honestly it might not be a bad idea to reach out to the people who originally had their names on the pre-order to see who is still interested in going through with this. Maybe they'll get lucky and some people will drop out, which may bring the number down to a more manageable level and help the boot get made. If I remember correctly there were over 30 people originally on the order.

Having said that, it's been years since any retailer has been able to introduce a brand new special makeup/group MTO in a rare shell color, so it's probably still just wishful thinking that the Thor boot could go into production.

Alden isn't doing any special orders in special shell colors, even to large retailers unless they are ordering a style that they have been doing for a while. Even those types of special orders are not being done often because Alden can't get enough of the lighter shell colors. I was told by quite a few contacts that it may take a couple of years.

it would be nice to know who is still interested in ordering something special MTO and maybe something can be worked out as long as it isn't a very special color.

I am absolutely still interested in something MTO.

As far as special make-ups of shell that Alden DC have already done, I would kill for the whiskey Indy boot. But, I understand that that would be difficult. Here are potential MTO ideas:
(1) reverse chamois tobacco Indy (Trubalance last) on commando sole with no speed hooks,
(2) dark chocolate or choco Indy (Trubalance last) on commando sole with no speed hooks,
(3) reverse chamois tobacco cap toe (Grant last) on commando sole with no speed hooks,
(4) dark chocolate or choco cap toe (Grant last) on commando sole with no speed hooks.

Is anyone interested in any of these?

I'd probably be interested in #3 or #4 with preference for #3.

Alternatively, what about asking a retailer to make the original Thor boot through Carmina?
