My first post after reading through a lot of threads and following a lot of good advice, so thanks for that.

I wear fine-knit crewneck sweaters directly on the skin, wool or cashmere. I am 41 years old (1.77m), exercise a lot and have a low fat percentage and larger chest, which causes me to be between two sizes: small and medium. The small shows some lines at the armpit and the shoulders are slightly higher. It looks a little tighter, but not too tight. Medium sits nicer on the chest and shoulders, but at the stomach and waist it is a lot wider. There is more fabric, also not necessarily a bad thing.

What do you guys recommend? The small where my body is more visible, or the medium which is more comfortable and perhaps more classy.

Generally speaking, most people here prefer the classy look. If the smaller size isn't really tight, aka "muscle fit" it can work as well - will need to see pictures to judge.
I used to trim most of my shirts/tops around the mid section to get a better fit. This adds up to the costs, but you get a much better fit all around.
