You need 9 measurements to order the perfect custom shirt. I have included a video in my blog post that shows you how to take the measurements yourself if you need to. The video and figures are compliments of Alexander West, a Manhattan based clothier specializing in custom-tailored shirts.

Video: http://bkarmstrong.blogspot.com/2011/07/9-measurements-necessary-for-your.html

These figures depict the differences between a Made to Measure dress shirt and a Bespoke dress shirt.

MADE TO MEASURE

Consists on only two standard body measurements
(neck and sleeve). By incorporating height and weight
data, AW uses proprietary algorithms to make a better
fitting shirt.

FULL CUSTOM (BESPOKE)

Consists of nine (9) body measurements: neck, chest,
waist, hips, shoulder, sleeve, biceps, wrist,
and back length. Also considers watch hand and watch size.

Interesting (but nothing new) The one thing that I didn't know was that the watch size is actually taken under consideration. I am guessing that this is only if the watch is too big/too small. I am (just) guessing that a 41mm Rolex could be e.g. too big if the sleeve is too "slim" Am I wrong? :embar:

their are a lot more measurements that go into a"Bespoke" shirt.
the first style of shirt mentioned is nothing more then a stock special.
the second shirt that goes with the video is a made to measure shirt.
yes.. made to the measurements of the customer.

a so called "bespoke" or full custom shirt that requires a paper pattern has much more detail

no posture details were included.
and there is no special algorithm for this shirt. Plane old geometry will do just fine
