I recently had a car accident the other day, but I was using another person's car. I've been told from other people that the insurance company covering the vehicle I was using will be the one paying for all the fees, but I thought mines is supposed to do that since I was the driver?

+1. Yes, it's the owner's insurance that covers the accident, not yours.

That's why you should always drive friend's cars - to keep your rates down!

Thanks guys the issue has been settled. A friend who doesn't have his own insurance but uses his sister's insurance for his car told me about the loophole.

Deleted most of my post.....just remember, that just because you have a piece of paper that says you have insurance does not necessarily mean you do, if you are not complying with contract.

I have car insurance through State Farm. My insurance covers me no matter what car I drive. I am covered in my own car, rental car or any car that I have permission from the owner to drive. I actually had a rider added to the my car insurance because I was going to be driving a rental car that was rented by my parents (in their names and credit card) and needed to be certain I was covered. I pay a little extra for this, but the amount is pretty insignificant when compared to the total premium.
