I'm surprised that there isn't a thread like this already. I'm pretty sure a lot of people here are well-read and have a lot of good recommendations to make. The last recommendable book that I read is called "The Quantum and the Lotus," which was co-written by a professor of mine back at UVA. It basically compares Buddhist philosophy and general principles of astrophysics regarding the creation of the universe, perceptions of time and reality, and other crazy stuff. It is a pretty short read, but it took me a while to get through it because it takes a long time to wrap your mind around some of the ideas examined. It is a great intro to Buddhism and astrophysics. My favorite novel of all-time is Nadja by Andre Breton. It is the first surrealist novel. What books could you recommend me? I'm on winter break right now and would like to get in some good reading. I'm working through Mishima's Spring Snow and Kawabata's Snow Country for the second and fourth times respectively (both great novels). I'd be interested in non-fiction or some great classical literature. Edit: I found the old thread... http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=12349 . Apparently searching "book" does not get you the best result.

Fate is the Hunter by Ernest K Gann. I don't think they make pilots like him anymore....
