I thought it must've been a good name since I could tell they were quality garments but since they didn't fit, I passed. Came home checked it out and Borrelli was considered quality, so this morning I went back right before work, they were still there. The label says "Borrelli Hand made for Bergdorf Goodman"
Cool! It's good to know some high-end store names as well, as many have very good quality house-label stuff. If the Borrelli doesn't fit, toss it in the trading post and I'm sure someone will trade you something nice for it!

It was a battle of the revivalists at the thrift store yesterday. In one corner vintage made-in-USA Polo RL db three-piece navy blue beaded pinstripe suit--Kent-style with aggressive lapels, full button-tab trousers with cloth self half belt, and high lapelled vest. In the other corner Alan Flusser rtw for Wilkes Bashford db suit in lightweight gray nailhead with faint blue windowpane--long silhouette, slightly dropped lapels, A&S-style trousers with side adjusters. Both were $16.99 each and surely came from the same donor. They are an interesting pair. The Flusser is very true to type, a definite homage to an imagined A&S. The Polo clearly prefigures PL in its affection for a different 1930s SR. But where the heck could you ever wear a three-piece worsted db?

Very nice! The unusual cuff is, as you surmise, designed to allow for occasional use of cufflinks. It's not uncommon on lower end shirts, but I've never seen it n as high a quality shirt as this.

Thanks for the info! I could be off on this, but wouldn't you have to have pretty large cufflinks to cover the buttons? Or else it might look funny with both cufflinks and buttons? I'm so confused. And one nice thing about these shirts now that I've had a chance to wear them -- the fabric on the opposite side is a bit darker in color than on the outside. So, when I wear the gray one, for instance, and roll up the sleeves in a casual fashion, the sleeves are almost black - very dark grey, so it contrasts nicely with the rest of the shirt.

Picked up a beautiful facconable dark-blue shirt in my size today but also had the troubling experience of putting down a brooks contrast collar non-iron down to try on the facconable only to see someone else snatch it right up.

I just can't help but crack up at the ignorance of the people who price the items, though. The fact that everything Polo and Lacoste is marked up insanely while the better brands can be found cheaper than dirt is fantastic.

BOSS is another of their favorites that seems to always have a hefty mark up. I found a beautiful Brioni sport jacket once (it remains one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe) for $20. It was sandwiched between two Hugo Boss jackets, both I think were orphaned suit coats, that were going each for $75. This lack of knowledge on the part of thrift store staff is the one advantage that thrifters have. Everthing else works against us, but this one fundamental flaw in the thrift store model (from the store's perspective) is what makes thrifting worthwhile. Let's hope that never changes.

The other day I found a really nice Canali sport jacket as well as a casual Jil Sander jacket in cotton. I also grabbed a very nice Nicky Milano tie and three new with tags Brook Brothers seersucker ties. I didn't realize they made ties in seersucker, but these are actually really cool. All three are striped in different colors (red, pink, and yellow/blue).

You're very welcome. I think that the expectation with this type of shirt is that cufflinks will be worn only very occasionally, and so the incogruous effect of cufflink+buttons (which would only be visible on the rear part of the cuff anyway) is tolerated.

I found a Brooks Brothers tux over the weekend priced at 89. It was in good condition except for a snag in the lapel (breast area). I was reluctant, but I fear that I should have snagged it.

Would a snag like this on a tux be difficult to repair?

Seemingly unworn bespoke black loafers by Gatto. Nice shape with a gently squared-off toe. The construction and leather are absolutely top rate. No idea how old these are. They have completely leather heels (no rubber lift) and heels and soles are stamped Gatto in the manner of old London makers--even the lettering looks the same. Stamped with a warrant from the Duke of Piedmont. I understand Gatto has never gone in much for modern things, so for all I know these are only 2-3 years old. I've never run across anything from Gatto before. At $27 these were a little more than I'm used to paying. I found them at one of the second-hand places where twentysomethings come to trade in their old H&M and Express stuff.
