Cool. Any idea what it's worth? I'm going to have the buttons fixed, but not sure I can find the straps for the wrists.

The ones I've sold in the past (all had the wool liner) average about $130. My brother is selling one right now. Has the belt, wrist straps and the wool liner and is at $117 with about 17 hours left. I sold one a few weeks ago that was missing the belt for around $100, IIRC.

I bought one of his first finds from him. Solid guy. I can understand the desire to hand off the work of listing and selling the stuff as I have big bags of stuff to list and don't usually feel like doing it myself. If I found the stuff he did (quality and quantity) I'd probably do the same.

The trench is missing the two buttons to hold the pockets closed and the wraps around the wrist, but otherwise good shape. That's the only tag I could find on it and it's crooked so I'm pretty sure it's fake.

I finally got a male mannequin form and spent the morning /early afternoon taking test shots and trying to figure out how to best showcase some of the clothes I have laying around. A lot of you have much more experience than I have staging these kinds of pictures. Would you please critique the pic's below and give me some first impressions or constructive criticism on how I could do it better?

Mine doesn't have a belt, either, but I'm not sweating it--sooner or later, I'm going to find a coat with a can't-tell-the-difference belt for a few bucks, so I'll buy it for the belt and re-donate the coat at the register.

I'm quite envious of that Safari jacket. Pretty sure it is an MMM piece. Zegna Couture Limited Edition? Wonder what the deal is there. Any cool details on that one to set it apart from regular Couture stuff?

I've done a little bit of research, and I think the jacket is vintage Margiela. From what I can tell, it has real horn buttons, and is hand tailored. That said, I'm a bit surprised that people are talking about my legitimacy rather than the epic-ness of that piece

This post has to be the tipping point. Where are you selling this stuff? I'm not hating; I don't want anyone to misread this. But now you're posting $3,000+ of NWT stuff , and I don't see any thrift price-tags or markings. Without links to B&S ads. or auction sites, you might as well start taking pictures of the racks at Stanley Korshak. I know that it's L.A., but we're not getting the whole story.

I don't believe the members here would be opposed to a link to the sales listings. At this point the girlfriend should be past hating the thrifting. I don't find close to what he does and my wife no longer has any issues with my hobby, due to the money I have made.

Just gonna clear the air here - Hope no one thought I was implying anything ill about Mr. Darkmatter. I agree, dude was helpful and nice when I had a few questions for him in PM. More power to him.

I am actually planning on linking you guys to the eBay. My consigner got my first shipment Thursday, and hopefully some stuff will go up tomorrow. I'll link you all then.

I'm not going to provide any evidence, but I will explain my thrifting a bit:
- Depending on how intense school is, I thrift between 4 and 7 days a week, up to 6 hours in a day
- Los Angeles has a ton of wealth, but more importantly, it has wealth in many discrete areas
- Aside from my BB haul, when I post a big haul, it probably came from 3+ stores
- I travel a lot within the area. Most of my hauls are not from my local thrifts. I pick a pocket of wealth, research it, hit some stores, and rotate to the next area.
- The most I have paid for a piece was the Chanel Boutique piece: I paid $69.99. There have been 2-3 other items over $40, but everything else is less.

Leave darkmatter alone guys. He has to make 60K this year to pay for college since he is going to fail if he spends so much time thrifting.

Actually, that's a sensitive topic. I'm a pretty obsessive guy, and I do thrift a little bit too much. I'm nowhere near failing, but I'm not living up to my academic potential.

Yes... they really are... At least the last pair I found was made from some decent selvedge. This pair is a nylon cotton blend with awful details... priced at $400 something.

Leave it be, he is going through a purple patch right now. They come and go. I used to thrift like an insane mutherfukker and would go through periods where I could eat Hermes Jackets for breakfast. Mostly you hit zippo, but these huge finds seem to come in groups rather than dribbles. I aint found **** around my area for 3 months now, but I had a purple patch for around a month where each thrift visit equalled a significant haul. Darkmatter will have weeks where he wont find a damn thing. Not being negative for him, thats the way it goes. In any case, I remember when he first pitched up with hopeless finds, he took the advice given, probably extended his range, and now he is doing better than everyone else here.

He also probably has a good feeder store in a rich area. Hit it just at opening time and leave once you got all you can carry. Ups n downs being part of the game, he will likely have monthly / every other month joy at these places.

Also, if I were Darkmatter, I would discontinue his practice of posting all his stuff here. I dont see how all his effort is paying off rendering the posts only to flip on eBay. He should post what he intends to keep, flipping or trading kept a private matter. I hate having attention on me though, so perhaps I am not best at giving advice.

Darkmatter should listen and pay heed - no kid in the playground likes the boy whom all the girls like!

Seems a decent fellow. Probably doesnt understand the dynamics of thrifters who can be a pretty jealous bunch of assholes when they hit a sour patch while another is scoring.

Its fun to show the wins, but frankly if he is going to make some $$ out of it just sell it and leave it be.

For me, I have kind of quit thrifting. Look how often this thread gets updated nowadays versus in '08/'09. More than 100 posts a day. That screams overdone.

There are 4 problems rendering much of thrifting useless:

• Many thrift outfits are not putting out much high end stuff and are selling it to premium bulk buyers
• Prices are too high. When T Hilfiger dress shirts are $15 we've reached a bubble in the market
• There is just too much competition now and too few scores relative to the past, I have been thrifting 15 years, its totally different now - everyone is brand savvy
• The fever pitch of ebay flippers is worse than ever, which further erode the spoils

What this means is that its now a waste of time to go out...

I know I'm not alone, but I am really enjoying seeing DarkMatter's Isaias, Margielas and Brionis rather than reading about noobs bragging about their Christian Dior Monsieur ties and Brooks Brothers 346 polos. I do get jealous too but seeing others score big inspires me to keep at it when I hit a dry spell.

This thread was getting pretty bad. DM was the breath of fresh air we needed.
