Im quite sure the xx refers to STF. I've never seen them positioned like that but levis does a bunch of weird **** sometimes.

For what it's worth, I have a pair of 501s with the XX in the exact same spot as your picture, and they aren't STF. Granted, these were $14 at TJ maxx so it may have been an irregular or something (The pants were marked 31x34 but fit more like a 30x33). Either way, i've washed them twice so far and they're no worse for wear.

Well the UPS truck is on the way with my 4 pairs of STFs - let the experiments begin. Will do the first one tonight. Planning to soak it in very hot water for an hour plus, towel dry/get as much water out as possible, and put them on to wear until they dry. Sounds like a plan?

All four of the pairs that I just got are made in mexico and marked STF on all the labels as well as the levi's website. The XX is in the middle of the label, not by "501"

Like I said, everything on my jeans was marked STF I just washed them and put them on after wringing and drying them off with a towel. They shrunk. Let off a LOT of dye. My balls are going to be really blue after I take them off. I think they are still shrinking. So far so good, but how long am I going to be here sitting commando in wet jeans???

you should be carefull when you dry them. I just let the tub drain and sit there like an idiot for 10 minutes. then carefully take them off and carefully roll them up in a towel like a jelly roll, you just want to get the excess water out. Then hang to dry. If you agitate you will loose indigo. If you don't dry them a little before hanging you can get indigo drip marks that look goofy.

You don't have to let them dry as you wear them. That would take forever and be crazy. You wear them in water as they shrink so they don't shrink too much, after about 30 minutes most of the shrinkage is done.

My STF are definitely STF and they definitely don't have XX next to 501 and they definitely have XX above the horses head. I need batteries in my camera so I can't take a pic.

Also on the printed tag inside left pocket it says "Exclusive XX Special Top Weight All Cotton Denim"

Well some people said that it's good to dry them on your body to shape them the right way?

yeah I got those same tags Anyway, so I am on my second pair tonight. First was the Knight Rigid, and slightly larger/longer - for comfy wear (+1 waist, +4 inseam) with rolled up hem. 1.5 hours in the hot tub, towel dry, then wear for like an hour while sitting and walking around the house. Hung to finish drying. Doing the second pair now - Black Rigid - got shorter and my smaller waist size(+0 waist, +2 inseam) to get them slim and straight. Shrunk for about 40 minutes, towel dry, put it on.. Gonna dry it on my body for at least a few hours.. They look and feel very good right now, hope they stay this way - came out exactly the way I wanted them to. So doing ok so far. By the way, the dye dynamics are totally different between black and knight. Knight let out some dye in the tub, but it rubs off like crazy when you touch it.. and still has tons of dye. Black let out way more dye in the tub in a shorter time, and much harder to rub off now. Really like both colors so far. Also got khaki, which I think I will keep, and classic dark rigid, which I might return or keep, not sure yet.. I think I like knight better, and think it will become a better blue with wear compared to classic which I think might get too light with wear/wash.

How dark are the knights? Or are they just indigo with blackcast? After soaking what color are they? (after soaking the classic indigo, they turn from almost black to deep indigo.

Another way to soak these is to just put them in a tub of really hot/boiling water for 30--45mins and then after they dry some put them on.

Actually the ones in your picture look exactly like my knights.
