do this jeans stretch "to much"? (i'm not talking about the STF)

i tried 31 and fit's me perfectly, but i'm afraid that it stretchs to much and turns loose.

i also tried 30, but it's to tight , and i don't know if it stretchs so much that will be good when stretched.

so, the 30 to be good, needs to stretch until it seems like the 31. does it?

ah, i didn't even notice this thread was on the front page, i guess i can post my 501 stf question here then.

i read to get your true waist size or size down one to get a slim fit for the 501 STF's, and i'm wondering if the waist stretches out at all? i ordered some 30's and i can barely get the top button done up. Will they stretch out to a wider waist or should i return them and get a size up? the legs fit perfectly so i'm hoping they'll stretch out.

by the way, they haven't been soaked yet. i'm not sure if i can return them to levi.com if i've soaked them.

I have 2 pairs of STF's, 1 grey and 1 black, i got a 29x32, and could barely button them up pre-soak, I ran a hot bath and sat in there with them on for about 20 minutes, the length is perfect, (I'm a 29-30 length), and while very tight the first few days they have stretched some, and gotten more comfortable. So my suggestion is to keep what you have if you can button them up.

thanks for the advice, but i decided to send them back, i'll see if i can pick up some 31x34's or 32x34's. if i soak them really hot i could probably get the same fit in the legs as the 30's were pre-soak. besides, the length was 32, which was actually just right as is, and if i lost two inches after soaking they would be too short. weird, cos the 30x32 rigid 514's i have are pretty much the perfect fit and the length is about 2 inches too long (so i've got a bit of stacking) also, mine were grey too, haha. i'm thinking about getting some black ones at one point too, cos i've already got blue jeans covered. also, kinda unrelated, but how long have you had the black ones and how do they fade? i've searched all over the internet but i can't for the life of me find any info on the fading of the black 501 STF's

I've had the black ones about 6 months, but i only wear them 1-3 times a week, and hardly any fading at all, but I do like the fit and i haven't been very hard on them, the grey ones I just got about 2 weeks ago, and they are a really awesome color. I took the stitching and red tab off both of them and several people compliment me and ask what they are almost every time I wear them.

Mini rant:

Whoever does the quality control in the Levi's factory needs to be taken outside and ass raped with a rusty melon baller.

I went in the other day to try on some STF's. Out of 6 identical pairs, no two had even remotely the same fit. One looked like a pair of rodeo clown pants and the other was so short it came up to my ankles. It was a 36 length. Ridiculous.

/End mini rant

I did see a new pair of already shrunk black 501's that were really nice. Solid jet black and they've got some of those stacked wrinkles in the back of the thigh/knee. Probably the nicest thing I saw while I was at the store.

does anyone have the greencast ones? Or midnight?

As far as sizing I just get my tagged size in the waist. They measure about 1" smaller then tagged after hot soak (tagged 30=29") If you hot soak while wearing them the waist will not shrink that much, and/or it stretches back out like any denim. The inseam shrinks alot however (2-3")

For about $30 these jeans are pretty cool.

Ugh, so since there is a Levi's sale today, I'm gonna try and track down some 501STFs.. I am actually thinking two pairs to experiment - the original color and the black. One a bit longer for rolling the hem up (probably originals since I think those are easier to track down in longer inseam) and normal hem for black.

So I am about 31-30 w/i in 514s right now. 32s feel a bit loose. What should I get for w/i in 501STF for the pair I plan to roll up and the one I don't? I am thinking 32-36 and 32-34? Or should I go even shorter on the second since with regular 30 inch inseam on 514s I still have some room/bunching?

Also, just to be clear on this, you soak the jeans in hot water for two hours, put them on and squat (for how long?) and then air dry? That's it, right?

get your normal waist size they shrink a little, but will stretch back out, so go with 31 (they'll be pretty tight for a day or so, but stretch back out quikly, I promise). As far as inseem goes, I'd say a 32 or 33 for the ones you're not going to cuff, and id say anywhere between 34 to 36 for the ones you are going to cuff. I've gotten 2.5 to 3 inches shrinkage in length on the 3 pairs i've tried.

Is there any reason I shouldn't buy like 4 pairs (knight, khaki, classic, black) and experiment?
