Some Canali suits for $1200 at Henry Buck's. They had 3-piece flannel chalk stripe 'exclusive' Canali for $2000.

They also had a few older Oxxford suits in solid colours for about $200. A few Church Suede Loafers for about $350.

Dropped into Herringbone today. $250 for a pair of chinos made in Turkey. Can't say I think that's a decent price.

It was around $850, half-price.

No photos sorry, as the only digital camera I have access to is my wife's and I would have to -

(a) 'fess up to the purchase;

(b) endure weird looks not to mention questions about what I was doing photographing myself in a coat.

I am going to take a shot at Herringbone shirts and argue they are overpriced for the quality of the cotton material. I bought a shirt reduced from $180+ from their Autumn range purely because I liked the chequered green pattern. The quality of the cotton fabric is otherwise 'trite' for the $RRP. Feels cheap and nasty just like the Asian mill it probably came from. (Not being racist Japanese Cotton is meant to be of high standard)

If you are going to drop close to $200 on a shirt add a little more and go and see Charlse Nahkle in Parramatta. You do pay a little more but the quality of fabric he gets from the UK, Italy and Switzerland. You also get a shirt that fits to your shape.

This is not a free plug for Charlse as his shirts speak for themselves as does that nasty Herringbone Shirt which thankfully I did not pay top dollar for.

Herringbone suits on the other hand seems to get some reviews.

As far as I am aware (and I could be wrong) a lot of the fabrics that Herringbone uses in its shirts are woven in Italy. I've actually been quite impressed by some of the shirting fabrics that Herringbone uses, and I'm also pleased that their shirts have unfused collars and cuffs.

I do, however, tend to think that they are too expensive at their normal retail price, particularly given that they have plastic buttons, that the stitching on their shirts is not nearly as fine as it used to be, and that the shirts are made in Vietnam (previously Pakistan) and not Australia (as they were when Herringbone first started).

I really like Herringbone's suits and I am fortunate in that they fit me very well, but I will only buy their shirts on sale. However, when one considers that virtually all shirts available in Australia are shockingly overpriced, Herringbone is simply charging what the market will bear. Whilst their shirts could be better, they're better quality than most of the other stuff that you see in DJs or other men's clothing stores for the same price or even more.

The go-to shops for work wear, like Myer/Ron Bennet etc, stock 90% rubbish. Until this changes Herringbone can charge what ever they like. The difference between wearing a Myer suit and a Herringbone suit is obvious from 100+ metres away.
Gradually men are starting to see the benefits from appearing professional but too many are too slow to change and some even shun dressing well. It appears the connection between their pay/promotion prospects and dress/bearing has not been made.
Too late to register a politcal party to get people to dress properly? Raise the taxes on rubbish clothing and subsidise quality?
**Side note - Anyone know if Dencorub can/will damage suit pants? Sore knees + City to Surf = no fun!

Frankly, I would think that it is quite possible that it could mark the fabric, unless you apply Dencorub and then wrap an elasticated bandage around your knees before wearing your trousers.

Also, if my memory serves me correctly, Dencorub has quite a strong smell and I wouldn't want my trousers to smell like liniment for weeks afterwards!

Mmmm I would (my trousers that is) ... I love the smell of deep heat on my PJs after basketball!

Been wondering about those Tailor Store ones too (though not in red!). Let us know how you get on. I like H'bone - wearing one of their jumpers as I type - but I'd want my chinos lined with gold for that, I'm afraid. I'd have thought chinos would be something the Australian high street would manage to do well. I was wrong.

As I say, I like H'bone but my latest order from Lewin arrived this morning - four shirts for less than 20 quid (Au$40) a piece, including p&p. H'bone may be better but they'll have to be one feck of a lot better, I'm afraid.

+1. I buy my work shirts from TM Lewin for the same reason.
