Yeah, I've had mine for 16 years too. Got it when I was 10.

So I got a 'new' Richard & Richards shirt (size 41) for sale for only $50 shipped (Retail $150). Don't know why it hasn't been sold yet? The collar spread looks great and the material is quality, wished I could keep it but I accidently got the wrong size!

Big n beardy here since high school. I've tried going clean shaven before bug unfortunately I'm a bit of a tubby ***** and no facial hair = little fat kid . I don't like when people overestimate my age but the gf likes it and I'd rather look 40 than 14...

I've got a friend who has a five o'clock shadow about 30 minutes after he shaves and by the end of the day it looks like he simply didn't shave in the morning, and he's been like that since he was 13! He used to get into a fair bit of trouble with the prefects at school for being scruffy - he'd actually shave in the school bathroom at lunchtime.

Haha poor guy - I'm not as bad as your friend, though I may just be delusional.

I grew a hefty beard a few years back over a 4-month period while my girlfriend was away. Mainly men liked it, the odd female, though they all seemed a bit suss. Perhaps times have changed as ovlov's article points out.

I was made to shave in high school in the bathrooms. They give you a disposable BIC razor and you go to town with cold water. I felt like Aslan in Narnia when they cut off his mane. The indignity.

The joy of testosterone! I have a beard which is getting unruly again, aka the Hemingway look. Plan to trim it down to a fashionable level.

Fashionable is not part of my lexicon. Elegant, debonair yes, fashionable hardly.

Well, the first DE shave went as well as could be expected - noticeably smoother than the safety razor (but not greatly so), no cuts but a little irritation in parts, The skin food did very well to sooth the irritation and I expect my results will get better as my technique improves, I use a very light touch anyway so it wasn't too big a transition from the safety razor. The main difference was that the DE razor has no lubricating strip but the shaving cream did its job well.

I wasn't sure I'd be used to the shorter handle of the Merkur HD in comparison to the safety razor but it wasn't too much of an issue. The handle has a pretty good heft as well which enables a light touch on the strokes. I pretty much let the weight of the razor do the work.

I'm using Derby Extra blades which are among the least sharp of the lot but makes them very good for anyone just getting into the whole DE shaving thing. Once I get used to the DE shaving technique, I'll try some of the more aggressive blades and see how I go with those,

Romp - I bought a 256 a few weeks ago from a store in the US, without the handle grip, however I emailed Filson and asked if I could buy it separately. I quickly received an email saying that they sell the handle grips for $10 and would post one out to me in Australia, waiving the shipping fees. If you are interested in buying the handle grip, I suggest you do the same!

It is yet to arrive, however the next task will be finding someone who can do a decent job installing it in Melbourne.

PS can anyone recommend an excellent tailor in Melbourne that can do some relatively simple alterations to a pea coat I recently bought?

Beardy mcbeard here, had mine for about 3 years now, only shaved off for my wedding. I still need to shave my neck of course and it gets trimmed once a week. Used to use the DE razor but it takes too long for me, 2-3 passes even more. Anyway we've had that debate many times over whats best, I've found a good middle road with a Sensor Excel with only 2 blades.

Chilly start to the day in our nations capital -

I wish I could grow a beard. Beard envy.

That being said, I am a king with the feather. Reason being that I would shave heads to prepare for craniotomy (selective shaving, whole head shaving is discouraged) in my previous job. any cuts were swiftly criticized by my consultants due to infective risk. So, i'm good with the razor but not with shaving my own hair or facial hair for that matter.

Jason, could I have your take re the cottonwork collar?

In my experience Needsupply is the best place to get it. Theres a monthly styleforum 10% code in the affiliate thread and shipping to australia is $17 which isnt bad from the US at all. I havea 257 and a small duffle. These two bags give me:
