^^ Surely can't be slimmer than those slim pants from places like Saba.

Was surprised that I was starting to have withdrawal symptoms while the upgrade was going on. Didn’t realised how much of a junkie I am!

Well I've had a busy day. Went back to the Herringbone sale and found the shirt I liked (fine green and navy stripes), but not in a 42. So I tried on a 43 (which was a sheet on me), the 39 (which was great through the body but too tight across the collar) and bought the 41. This was a 'slim fit' shirt...evidently they are cut on the 'large' side as all the other shirts in my wardrobe are 42-43.

Then I went into American Tailors to try on shoes. For those people who wear the Loake Capital last, I found the 358 last in comparison to be quite roomy in terms of width and fit across the instep. So much so that I went half a size down and tried on a 10.5, which was snug across the wide part of my foot and instep but squashed my toes too much. The 358 is very pointy in real life, almost dainty at the end of the toe box.. it isn't chunky at all (which is the impression I got looking at photos). I was trying on the Rosemoor, and I was told that because the nature of its cut (i.e. no toe-cap, no stitching over the instep...almost like a whole-cut) it may feel roomier than a 358 captoe oxford for example. Does anyone want to comment about this?

Unfortunately they had no 337 shoes in my size, so I've ordered a Weymouth in an 11. If it fits I'll buy it. Sebastian said he finds the 337 a bit tighter in terms of width that the 358. Mind you, he also said that he has 3 pairs of Marston loafers in the 337 last (black, brown and suede) and they all fit slightly differently..which he attributes to the hand lasting procedure.

So with much tentativeness and apprehension..I'm about to leap into a land of shoe purchase that if you said I would do it a year ago I'd have laughed at you and said you have rocks in your head.

Damn you StyleForum...damn you all to hell.

BTW the black chukka boot they have on sale is a Brecon.

Not sure I like this new board system and layout but if helps keep the spammers away its all good.

Be careful when choosing the last, I am about 90% convinced that I will getting rid of the Hallam’s that I purchased a few months ago, the 348 last just isn’t right for me. I might change over to the 337, which was more forgiving.

(Anybody interested in Hallam’s in black and brown UK 11.5’s let me know)

Nice to see everyone survived the update. My C&J Loafers arrived today. Off getting taps/plates/blakeys put on at Rekaris and then it will be a long wait for the weather to fine up so that I can wear them. Maybe I'll bring them on my US trip in a few weeks, should be nice and hot over there.

I must say the quality is an easily visible step up from my Loake shoes and the fit is spot on. They're appear to be made for BB Peal & Co but the markings are slightly different to the ones here, perhaps they're samples? Thrilled with the service from A Fine Pair of Shoes, especially given they threw in a free tin of Saphir polish to get me addicted to :)

I'm interested to know how much Rekaris charges for taps.

Suprised no-one mentioned the C&J loafers at the Herringbone sale. How much were they?

Checkstar - what don't you like about the Hallam's? Buying a pair of shoes is a leap of faith ... because what you try on in the store won't give you much clue as to how they will wear in a few months in the future. It's not like a suit. I just try to go off the advice given to me at McClouds, which was make sure the widest part of your foot (i.e. the ball of your foot) is located at the widest part of the shoe.

The Loakes I'm wearing now bear little resemblance to the shoes I bought a year ago.

Realised I was suffering withdrawal too. :uhoh:
I didn't really pay much attention to the shoes (I was too busy rummaging through the 2 boxes of ties for any good ones you guys might have missed, so all I could see were Supergas.

Non sartorial question are there any ipad users here? Wifi or 3G?If so what do you think of it? Practical? I know a couple of academics who swear by them in terms of functionality for use as a diary and adobe reading. I know in my line of work it would be useful (either that or a mac air) but somewhat unsure about it. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I have both Air and WIFI ipad. I use Air for work and bring it with to/from office every day. ipad has stayed at home thus far and has become tool of choice for web browsing, Skyping friends / relatives overseas, Apps etc (its also an educational tool for my kids: learning to read etc). I went with the Wifi rather than 3G ipad because: 1) I figured it'd be used mainly at home, on wifi network 2) if I ever take it out and about it'll be mainly for kids entertainment, not for web browsing (eg on flights etc) 3) if figured I'm already paying for a SIM card in my phone, if I need to get on line when I'm out and about I just tether the it to the iphone. Hope this helps.

Just realised I sound like a complete Mac Fanbois... if you knew me, you'd laugh at the suggestion!

I think the main issue is that I sized up to a 11.5 from my usual 11. This was because the 11 felt tight width wise. I also tried on the Audley's, in 11 which in hindsight was a better fit.

Yep, its just not quite right. After a few weeks you just know if its working or not. Plus the shoes a creasing in rather uncomfortable places. Life is too short to put up with uncomfort.

So you think the Air would be better value? I read few papers on a daily basis Guardian and NYT still do SMH hard copy. Some one mentioned the fact hat there is a HD version of ipad coming soon. Also thinking of it in terms of pulp fiction. Books have been breeding of late and while I enjoy the piece of fiction I don't hang on to many of them.

The 3 G would be good for me in terms of work and being out and about hmmmm! Plenty to think about I think.

thanks
