The stripes should be of a different scale. In other words, the width of the stripes on your shirt and the stripes on your tie should be substantially different.

Can I ask a suggestion for the colour of the lambswool crewneck sweater I should buy? I usually wear a black topcoat, dark indigo jeans or a black jeans, a white shirt and a white Stan Smith. I am considering charcoal grey , chocolate brown or heather grey but can't figure out which is the best for my closet.

Tipes/rules for wearing non matching waistcoat with a suit? I've seen the Patrick Jane character on the mentalist do it and have thought about trying it myself. (I clearly don't wear suits often, so it'd just be for nights out kind of thing)

Black suits are not particularly well-liked around here as you will easily see if you do a search for "black suit" in thread titles. A pinstripe design is typically for a business suit rather than a casual suit, so I would say that neither suit is particularly "not too formal." Most more casual suits are made from fabrics that are not hard-finished worsteds such as the two you've linked.

As I browse shoe threads on the forums I frequently see various lasts mentioned, but I don't know the difference between a 202, 606, 888, 82, etc. Is there some sort of 'last' primer floating around?

You want the pinned "Shoe Pictorial Index" thread in the Men's Clothing forum.

Tips for any waistcoat:

Length should be lower than your beltline of your pants.

Last button always undone (just like jacket)

Buy one with a cinch in the back.

Texture of waistcoat should match suit - ie a worsted wool waistcoat with a worsted suit. Fuzzy, tweedy waistcoat with sleek mohair suit = just wrong.

The db style of waistcoat is most elegant IMO...compared to the button up ones.

Hey everyone! I'm new to the Style Forum and new to wearing suits. I just purchased my first one in over five years. Here's my question. Is it okay to wear a dark navy blue tie with pink stripes with a black suit? The suit is almost iridescent. In certain light, it's black and in other light it ALMOST appears to be navy. Thanks in advance!

Mid grey nailhead as odd trousers: yes or no. I've bought very nice double pleated & cuffed pair which I think will go fine with brown shoes and a navy blazer. What thoughts on wearing with a range of other sports coats?
