I put the selvage chinos from Spurr at the top of my list in this category. Low-rise, slim but not skinny, button fly... If I could only find a pair in 30-31...

The thigh measures about 11.25-11.5", knee approximately 8.25"-8.5", with an 8" leg opening. Not too narrow of a leg opening, but that's as big as I prefer nowadays on my chino's especially for casual workwear. Fit pics when I get some time.
+1 on Gap. I have a couple of pairs. I like them because they're slim above the knee, not below, but if that bothers you, a tapering job is trivial. Here's one of my own fit pics from WAYWT, earlier this year:

Mine are size 28x32, and measure ~31" at the waistband, ~11" across the thigh, <8" across the leg opening. They're sized to your true waist, not your wearing waist.

I just got the barnyes co op fit book in and the APC cotton chino pants are the best fit in the book imo, gonna have to check them out.

I also enjoy the gap original fit...they fit wider at the ankle than I would prefer, but they fit better in the thighs and seat than j. crew and tapering the leg is easier than fixing the ass. Fit pic:

Sweet. Is tapering a simple 'couple-bucks' job for a tailor or is it more difficult? Could someone even taper their own trousers at home? I've noticed the same with Gap trousers - even the slim fit. Fit beautifully on the leg and cheeks but have a little too wide leg opening.

nice fits those with the Gap originals .

somehow, my sz30 Gap originals khaki fit me a little big in the thighs and hem compared to your fits. I may want to put it up for sale soon. If anyones interested please PM me.

They come in navy too. They made my butt look gud. I kinda want them now but might be able to kop at sales time somewhere. Then again, an affiliate might get them soon and maybe i could get discount. Could be hemmed an inch or two i think for less break.

Steven alan makes some great ones. If you're a new yorker, hit the outlet store and get them for $60.

I bought a pair of these today after wearing a pair of Gap originals a lot this summer (whenever it was too hot for my New Standards).

The Gap ones are 33/32, the AE ones are 32/32. If I went down further on the Gap ones, I would get the dreaded pocket bulges.

The AE fit me a lot better. They are slimmer (leg opening seems smaller, but I don't feel like measuring) with virtually no diaper ass (which is insane on the Gap ones). The fabric is also noticeably thicker and higher quality; the Originals are flimsy. The pocketbags are smaller, which I prefer, and the rise isn't so high.

I felt nasty after entering AE, but for five bucks less I am much happier with these.

Is the wash pretty "vintage" inspired or these can be dressed up?

I'm wearing it to work today. The only distressing that I can see is on the hem, and it's very small little tears. Not noticeable except upon close inspection of the lip of the hem.

on Rag & Bone. The RB23 cut for their pants is really slim. Fitted top block with a good taper but not too much of a taper. I'd size up 1 because the top block is really fitted, but otherwise it's a great cut.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but Rugby makes a pretty slim chino.

If you're in DC or Miami, drop by the Sisley store. I picked up two pairs of chino trousers from them that I really, really like. $80, I think. They're at the tailor's right now being taken in (they only had a EU46, when I really needed an EU45), but when I get them back I'll try and snap a pic.

The Ladoga trousers from Shipley and Halmos FW08 are nice, too. They're not chino material, but they can serve a similar purpose.
