I don't have any experience with these brands and I am trying to decide between the two. The eternals are a slimmer jean but I wonder if they will be too similar to the 5EPxSF. I also wonder if the IH will be too heavy for wearing in San Diego. I do like a heavier jean though.

Any recommendations/thoughts/input?

If it helps, I currently own:
5EP Low Down Bootcut
5EPxSF
APC Rescue (which I never wear)

Just to clear up the common myth of Iron Heart's 21oz denim being too heavy for warm weather.. It's a slack weave denim, the denim breathes very well, and some say even better than a rigid 14.5oz denim.

eternal 811 is one of my favourite pairs
i don't own, but have tried on, iron hearts and the eternal 811 simply 'fits' my body better than ih does

the eternal 811 are slim and somewhat similar to 5EP ldb pair other than they're not bootcut though

the indigo goes off like easily though on the eternal in comparison to 5EP

I own the 811's and love them. I don't have any experience with IH.

The 811's are probably the best fading jean, imo. You find very few 811's in the evolution pages with poor fading and these were due to being washed too often. They hold their indigo very well and the vertical falling that slowly appears over time is just beautiful.

That said, I am not crazy about the fit of the 811's. They are slightly anti fit and have a larger hem than I would desire. This can be a good thing as they are less fashion forward and more of a traditional cut.

Anyway, hope that helps a bit...

Yeah, I eventually sold mine, as I just couldn't get the fit to work quite right. They are significantly more anti-fit than the IH 634S, and the front rise is longer. On guys 5'9" or shorter, I really doubt the 811 is going to look very good. The IH, on the other hand, seems to be a pretty universal fit from what I've seen in photos here. Skinny and heavy guys alike tend to look good in it. One difference I think everyone can agree on is that the 811 will produce a higher-contrast fade than the IH.

i have 634S and they are probably my most often worn jean. I have seen great results from 811s but they are just not that unique anymore, they are a full repro and there are tons of similar offerings from SDA, Fullcount, warehouse, etc. 634 on the other hand feels like a real new cut, however subtle.

If you want to add a standard japanese repro, 811s are as good a choice as are many others. but personally the only jeans I would consider adding to my rotation at this point are Flat Head 3001 or Oni Blue, each for their unique characteristics.

one other thing, you can get standard non-selvage 634 which are just a tad slimmer and cheaper too

agreed, i have been wearing my 634s for about 8 or 9 months, and they are bearable to wear in perth on all but the hottest of days (ie 40C plus).

im not familiar with the 811, however the 634s are a cut that would be flattering on almost any body type. i cant recommend them enough.

You guys saying the eternals are anti fit must be pretty dam skinny. The guy on bears is only 63kg and they look pretty slim / regular on him.

fit through the leg isn't that slim... I'm not sure they're much different than the 634 but certainly they aren't as slim as say, skulls or maybe even 3001s.

The 811 is slimmer in the thigh than the IH634, but it is way baggier in the top block (a less modern cut). The 3001 is slimmer than either.
