The $10 Dr Scholl's Gel inserts work well in my RWs. They have a model that is made for "work" boots/shoes.

I found that I didn't like an insole in my IRs; my heels didn't feel deep enough in the boot. I was using these cheap Spenco insoles.

Thanks, guys. Are there any models, lasts, or outsoles that would dictate whether I should add an insole? Just perusing the thread I was seeing people talking about putting them in, and I would assume that it would depend on one or more of these factors. Thanks for any help, as I am totally new to RW's.

i ended up going with the 1907's. i was torn between those and the GT's but i guess im just a sucker for moc style shoes ha. those thorogood's look really nice as well. apparently theyve been made since the late 1800s according to their site? isnt that even longer than red wings? pretty cool, i maybe should have gave them a shot. oh well. i think i will save the GT's for next winter. heres hoping to the cherry leather ones going on sale over the summer

I would get RM Williams instead.

I should also add that there are a few styles available at 50% off at the Len Druskin Outlet in Edina, MN. Camel suede IR's, 8146's, and a few others. I know it's unlikely to affect many people, but it might help, and it's really all I can offer to this thread at this point.

Wanted to get opinions on these. My wife and teenage kids think they look awful. I was able to get them fairly cheap from Zappos and I think they will look killer when broken in. opinions?

^^^ Love me some Red Wings, but I'm not a fan of those.

Is it the contrast of the black with the white Vibram soles, or just not a fan of the boot?

I like the wedge sole, just don't like the boot.

Have you checked out the 8130?

I do like those, but they're similar to my black Indys. I really don't even need these black RWs, but I just got them for about $150, and they feel soooo good. They are MUCH lighter than my Indys and just easier to slip on and go. My wife and kids are not a fan of the black w/ white vibram. My 17 year old son thinks they look like "old man" shoes.

I like these for work shoes if you can wear more casual stuff.

I have to agree with your wife and kids.
