Can someone explain why hand-made button holes are so impressive?

Therefore, I believe he was simply asking those who do appreciate handmade buttonholes what it is about them that makes them so special. So far, only dopey and lakewolf have given helpful answers. (I'm not an aficionado of handmade buttonholes, so I really can't be of service here.)

+1.

People make a huge deal out of hand sewn buttonholes here on SF. The guy was simply asking for the rationale.

If someone else asked why non-fused suits, goodyear welted shoes, or removable collar stiffeners were better options he likely would have gotten intelligent and thoughtful responses. Instead, people that don't have an answer and follow the crowd pile on without reason. And look like assholes.

Only if they're "distressed" and have huge logos on them.

Unlike those, good handmade buttonholes are pretty rare to come by.

Anything done by man over machine is better. Take commuting. My smartest friends in California like to get up early in the morning, walk right onto the 405 highway, and then walk to work. It may take more time, it may cost more in terms of footwear used, but when they are at work, they sit there with a grin on their face at their accomplishment, something that puts them above any of their other colleagues.

Stupid robots, humans do it better!

You assume that it will be an elfin-fingered Rosa working with painstaking love, care and experience who's handstitching those things, rather than Beppo the school-leaver and his 20 friends churning them out on the workshop floor in the interest of time and money. What's the difference? For the casual punter, the worse it looks, the more handmade it seems.

Why won't WalMart let me use my Neiman Marcus card to fill up my motor bike in the dead of winter when I'm wearing a 3-button suit? Would they if I wore a two-button suit?

Well . . . I was wrong. It was driving me crazy not remembering where I saw this. The FNB thread was on Patrizio Cappelli, not Monetti. Here is the link. Scroll down to see some beautiful examples of handsewn buttonholes. My favorite, as mentioned, was the one posted by Cruz Diaz.

If u need someone to explain why such hand made details are so impressive then u will never understand it. Its like asking why do people think the sunset is so beautiful. Seems like u have to much time on your hands and need a hobby.

Yup. Apples to apples. Thanks for your contribution, FashionMiami. Hopefully, as a new member, you have many more pearls of wisdom to share in the future.

Coming from the guy who didn't know how to match socks to shoes, didn't know what MTM was, and thought Johnston & Murphy shoes were top notch.

Here is my question. Can those not be done with a machine?
