^Just about all shoes use glue in their construction. Where it is bad is when the welt and sole are simply glued to the upper. This is not the case with Goodyear welted shoes like your A-Es.

Ahhh, gotcha. I suppose it would have been more accurate to say "... not usual for that stuff to be used where they used it." Thanks for that clarification!

Gee, JLibourel, looks like we're the only ones reading this thread. When you get a chance, would you mind checking one of your AEs for lint buildup? I' m very curious to know if others have the same "symptom" that got me all riled up.. Haha

^To oblige you, Duder, I checked several pairs of my most frequently worn A-Es. In one pair, I could descry no lint at all. In another pair there was a fair amount of lint, and in third pair considerably more. Why this disparity should exist, I can't say. I have noticed lint build up in other shoes besides A-Es over the years.

Much obliged, Sir! That's very interesting. All three of my pair started accumulating within one year. Hmmm. Maybe it's something to do with the socks. I only wear thin dress socks with my AEs (as I imagine most do), but they are all different brands--probably mostly cotten/synthetic blends. At any rate, I appreciate your input over the past few months and your help putting my mystery to rest!

Glad to have been of assistance. Your query was of particular interest because I've had a lot of experience with the build up gunk on leather and also because I have been a major A-E fan for the past 14 years or so.
