Definitely worth asking. I know in the beginning, when the 116520 was released around 2000, it kept the narrower hour/minute hands of the prior 16520. Once the so called "Fat Hands" models came out around late 2004 early 2005, a lot of people sent their watches in and had the hands replaced with the newer thicker hands. Of course having the hands switched might be easier for people outside the US, as the European Rolex service centers seem less stringent about parts.

I really like it! I just wish that in addition to the black subdial rings, they also went back to the brushed finish on their lugs.

I can't wait for my white dial for sure

I generally prefer black dials, but I think the white dial "Pop" a bit more with the ceramic bezel and matching subdial rings. Although, I'd probably have to see both in person to decide as both look great.

I certainly won't be the only one to think if Rolex had gone with a consistent numerical approach to the dial on this one ( 15 / 30 / 45 ), they could have had (yet another) well-received hit.

Still has a certain bit of sauciness, methinks. Love the touch of green, and the gold Crown.

But the 3 / 6 / 9 should be reserved for the Explorer, right?

Had to keep it sort of believable...more than a DJII, less than a Deep Sea, subconscious repeat of BB Bronze criticism. But you just reminded me that Breitling's chrono actually is now 47mm. What is the world coming to?

So mimo, after looking at them all on the wrist ... I'm curious which Black Bay is your fave?

I'm totally torn. I really like the Black, as a standalone, on its own merits aesthetic choice. I like the slightly gnarly vintage look it has on that strap too. But at that point I think I'd rather have an actually old Rolex sports watch - Sub, GMT, Exp, whatever, even for a few more bob. It's just too much "like a Rolex but not" for me to actually consider buying.

I like the blue one on the bracelet, and the burgundy in either guise. But for its individuality and definitive Black Bayness, if I were to actually take the plunge and buy? Burgundy, on a strap, used, around under $2k now I think. Doesn't look like anything else, not prohibitively expensive with the old ETA-ish movement, less than half the cost of an old Sub. Makes sense. So yeah, I like looking at the Black, but I think I'd more likely buy the Red.

Also, I just saw a wrist pic of the Bronze on Hodinkee, and it looks great. I didn't realise at first that the dial is brownish too with a very matte finish. I don't like the added numerals much and I'm suspicious of the larger case, but I'd certainly like to try one on. The little one too.

I almost always prefer black dials too but the white dial with looks better on the new Daytona-C, it's also slightly more distinct from the current SS offering (white has new bezel and sub-dials while the black only has a new bezel).

Me likey! Will probably consider a trade-in / trade-up on my current 214270 model, to be honest.

But I have also really liked the Explorer II ever since it was released a few years ago.

Suffice it to say, I've got the Rolex fever really bad today LOL.

As dino is wise to point out, we will obviously need to wait and see what these look like in the metal / on the wrist ... and that's gonna be a while.

Nice! Liking the black more than I thought I would.

London boutique is getting the 116500 Daytonas in to view for one day only on May 11 and they will be prototypes not production pieces. Can't see many shipping before the Summer. Manager said the store went "berserk" today.

Two things jump out at me. First - on the new explorer I don't like how the lume of the hands overlaps the lume of the hour indices. One of the details I appreciated from the short-hand explorer was that the lume of the minute hand goes just to the edge of the indices. I assumed that was intentional as was the choice of hand length but I guess I assumed too much. I don't have an issue with the new bigger hands (longer + wider) but think it would look better without the overlap. I'm still not sold on the 3/6/9 lume - thought that it had just the right amount of daytime bling. Would I trade my explorer straight up for a new one? Sure. But I don't think I would part with extra money for it and thanks to @SteveH35 I got a pretty nice price on my explorer.

On the new Daytona - I was hoping Rolex would do something cool like a grey or silver ceramic bezel to maintain the current look. I've always liked the white dial more and do think the new white dial with black registers and bezel looks great, but it's certainly more in your face than the last daytona. I'm a little surprised they didn't go white subdials on the black daytona. I haven't had much interest in the black dial version because black dials are ubiquitous in sport rolexes (and I have a speedy) but now even less so. People often said they black and white dial versions sell in equal numbers but I have a hard time believing that would be the case going forward. They should have done something else with it to make it special.
