Why wear a wrist watch when you could easily consult your phone for a quick time-check?

I don't have a phone or a pocket-watch, so I wear a wrist-watch.

Because a cellphone is disposable and a great watch can last a lifetime and beyond.

I'm sorry, I should have originally posted something just a bit older.

Oh, did I happen to mention that a great watch is like a fine wine.

It just keeps getting better with time.

I'm struggling mightily with why you would post such a question on a forum called STYLEFORUM. Oddly enough, it isn't just the type of individual who hangs out on this forum that wears a watch for style. They've made quite the fashion comeback. My 26 year old niece wears a watch every day whose battery ran out 6 months ago

I receive a comment or compliment about my watch every couple of weeks.
But, there are also situations where it's simply impolite or not possible to check your phone. I can wear a watch places I wouldn't carry a phone.

Yeah, in certain industries it's not allowed to have a phone in the building/office/site at all. So at the very least those people have a need for a watch.

Yup. Just like the pocket watch. The wrist watch is already obsolete.
ob·so·lete /ˌäbsəˈlēt/ adjective: obsolete no longer produced or used; out of date. Hard to believe wrist watches are obsolete using the above definition as I think Rolex has $4+ billion in sales and world-wide I think I read more than a billion wrist watches are sold per year; I cannot swear by these numbers so someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

In 2012, swatch group had sales of $7.5b, Rolex $4.5, lvmh watch $3.6, richemont $3.9, Patek slightly below $1. All in billions. all sales combined for smart watch in 2013 was only $700m and wearable smart devices market size was $2.5b in the same year. Literally it only takes way less than $1 million for these makers to come up with a smart watch design to sell into their existing channel. But with the precedence of handset market on how android fucked everything up, no hardware vender is dumb enough to jump in to create value for Google.
