Would it be possible for you to talk to a silk supplier and get some various samples (or images) of rust neats provided there are enough of us willing to commit to ordering the neat? We'd then vote on which silk to have the ties made with, you'd order the silk, and then everything else proceeds as normal (you make wonderful ties for us, we gladly throw money at you).

If this is workable, how many folks would need to commit for you to be comfortable going forward?

You could work it a different way... Pick a neat design that you like and have it coloured in the tone of rust that you like. Might be hard to get people to agree on one pattern since there are so many though.

@Sam Hober

Well, just as an example, let's say there were a number of us looking for the perfect rust neat. Though it's a great color, rust is sometimes hard to find. @Henry Carter
carried a really nice one for a while there. Claghorn,

An interesting idea, for us it would only work if we liked the design and then we would make it with no minimum.

Also we normally work on groups of designs so for example now I am working on stripes and have been for a while so stripes would not be very difficult to do.

Doing one type of design on its own can be very expensive and a slow process.

If you can find a tie maker that typically goes to Italy and looks at designs that might work better for you.

I'd be interested in a large block stripe regimental, since @Sam Hober mentioned regimentals. I quite liked these recent Drake's, but no one seemed to stock them in 9 cm. I'm not wedded to them specifically, but something along these lines would interest me. Green/brown, green/grey, burgundy/brown come to mind.

I also want to mention that this is absolutely open to non-tie items (in fact, non-tie items that we envision but do not seem to find are probably even more suited to this project), but I wanted to start with neckties because they are accessible and easy to build a consensus around.

And I too would like to say that I'd love some block stripes

@Sam Hober a suggestion for a striped tie: make one similar to Navy Blue & Yellow Gold on Red English Stripe Silk Tie #4, but with a darker red... I want a red, blue, and yellow reppe stripe but I much prefer a dark red or burgundy to a bright red like that.

Have you talked with @LA Guy ? What you do seems pretty interesting.

------

David,

As far as what striped ties I'm interested in: I'm not too choosy about the colors; it's the widths of the stripes that are important. Nice block stripe ties a hard to find (outside of Shibumi, Drakes, and Viola Milano...so maybe that aren't that hard to find). Though browns, blues and greens go well together.

So, funny thing - I actually work for a company that does exactly what @sprout2 is describing. I run the men's style vertical for a company called Massdrop, and it's a site that's devoted to helping product enthusiasts organize group buys for their favorite items (and in doing so, get them at a much better price). We work with the vendor, figure out pricing and minimum order quantities, and handle fulfillment so that you can get group pricing on the things you're interested in. Here are just some examples of things we've done / are doing / will do:

-Saphir shoe care products (currently live)
-MTO shoes from Rider Boot Co, Rancourt, Oak Street Bootmakers
-Shades from Randolph Engineering, American Optical, Shuron
-Ties from Germany's knit tie factory (the one Drake's etc use), Berg & Berg, and hopefully from Panta soon
-lots of products from SF faves like Kent Wang
-watches from Orient, Seiko, Maratac, etc

Anyways, I certainly don't want to hijack this thread but thought it was interesting and worth noting that my full time job is doing what you guys describe here. I've been thinking about ways to get the styleforum crew more involved in what we do, and this seemed like a good opportunity to mention it. I've loved being part of the StyFo community over the years and if the thing I work on all day would help people here get the products they want, that would be great. Happy to answer any questions, otherwise carry on!
Interesting. You meet all sorts here. We'd be happy to work with MassDrop. Why don't you shoot me a line at styleforum.net at gmail.com and we'll hash something out.

Cheers,

Fok.

As mentioned somewhere else, count me in for both a dark green nailhead and a perfect rust neat.

At the risk of clogging up the works, would people buy any of these if they were available and we could persuade Ed at Panta to run a GMTO for it? (Haven't asked, but thought I'd gauge interest first). I have coveted these forever:

Totally in for a rerun of those, particularly brown and green.

Does anyone have any non-tie suggestions? Perhaps some small leather goods in a format we have been unable to find anywhere else? Think outside the box -- no need to stick to pre-existing forms.
