Hello all,

Since Elio from English American has retired I am trying to find a good source for MTM in the DC area. I have searched previous post but many are quite old. I have purchased 8 suits from E/A and I love them all but I want to find another source in the area. Do you have any recommendations. I am looking in the $1,000 – $1500 range?

For a few hundred more, I think you'll be in Field's range. IIRC bespoke.

It has been a few years since I've been to Field's though so prices may have changed.

Sid Mashburn is opening a store in Georgetown, I believe. Their MTM is well above your budget, but their RTW starts around $1100-1400 and has a lot of custom elements like full canvas, ticket pockets, surgeons cuffs, pick stitching, etc.

Last I asked (few years back) I remembered in the low $2k's but there may have been several elements that would have dropped the price down that low like having my own cloths.

On the other hand, there is this Korean tailor in Fairfax, VA that did my bespoke tux... fantastic guy and price is right on your range.

I can post a fitpic and give you deets if you're interested.

Hi, I started a similar thread a few days after this one and would be interested in learning more about your experience with this tailor in Fairfax. Pics and details would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Oops, I could only find one from this past new year's eve party:
(don't mind the uber wrinkly sleeves, this was taken after midnight and I've had it on since 9AM for a NYEve wedding.)

I was able to guide him on breast pocket height, button stance, etc... he did have his own style but is very flexible. He'll push back when it compromises fit or goes way off the traditional look.

Here's an alteration example. I acquired an RLPL suit for dirt cheap but it didn't fit everywhere so I took it to him. The biggest jobs on this suit were raising the sleeves from the shoulder(working button holes), taking off some of the shoulder padding, lowering the collar, shortening at the hem of the jacket. If I had gone to Field's with this, I'm pretty sure I could've had an MTM from SuitSupply ;)

EDIT: PJohnson comes by to NYC periodically... he may be *just* above your range... he's worth the small stretch in budget if you can swing it.

Thanks for posting the pics. Were you 100% satisfied with the tux and alterations work? I think it looks pretty good but even with pictures it is hard to judge. Who's the tailor?

Yeah it is fairly hard to judge with any picture.
I'm completely satisfied. I don't worry about having to drop off my expensive suits to him for alteration.
I've used him for all my alteration needs except when I'm in the city for prolonged periods due to work - I'll go to Fields for convenience.

Best Tailoring
9126 Lee Hwy, Fairfax, VA 22031

I haven't yet taken advantage of it but he can do everything by hand for a price.... how much, I have not asked.

I had a feeling you would say them. They are highly recommended by most accounts. I'm glad you were happy with the work. Did he slim the pants or sleeves on you RLPL? Also, what does he charge for a custom suit? How many fittings? How do you compare his bepoke construction with other suits? Thanks again!
