Canadian ordering shoes from england

I am thinking about ordering loake shoes from pediwear.com that is located in England.

Has anyone on this board living in Canada ordered shoes from England? Was duty and extra tax ever charged? How can I get by this .. I really do not feel like adding the cost

You'll be charged at least 10% duty - possibly closer to 25%, depending on which of the many classifications for shoes that Canada Customs adopts - plus GST (7%) and PST (depends on your province, probably around 8%) on top of that.

"Getting around it" or whatever eupheism you use is a criminal offence - don't do it. Saving the $100 or $200 isn't worth being arrested.

Then is Loake shoes Last: 029 worth it?

Loake inc tax and duty (20%) = $400.
Here, Hugo Boss Dress shoes cost = $455 inc Tax.
Prada runs around avg of $650+
D&G $500+
LV $650+
GUCCI $600+
Cole Haan $290+
I do not like AE. so thats not an option.

Ask if the shoes can be sent by Royal Mail. If so, it will be delivered by CanadaPost when it arrives. So if you have to pay duty, the customs brokerage fee will only be $5. Other carriers charge substantially more.
And, don't forget to ask the store for VAT exemption.

You need to recalculate the tax and duty.

If the shoes cost $200, add 10% duty ($20) for a total of $220, then 15% sales tax ($33) - making them $253. That's a combined duty/tax rate of almost 27%.

Of course, you could get hammered with duty, at the rate of 25%. Then, with the same shoes: add 25% duty ($50) for a total of $250, then 15% sales tax ($37.50) - making them $287.50. That's a combined duty/tax rate of almost 44%.

If I am importing shoes, I always assume I will pay at least 35% of the value in the taxes, duties and brokerage fees.

it's hit and miss
i've never ordered shoes from england but i have ordered shirts and other products and sometimes i get hit with duty, gst and pst and other times nothing
i've come to the conclusion that it's just random but be prepared for it nonetheless

I recently have bought a pair of shoes from england, from a retailer not listed above. They were on sale, and cost roughly $220CAD shipped Royal Mail to Toronto. ($220 was declared on the customs form.) Customs fees/brokerage was $72.

I'm regularly ordering shoes and other clothing items from the UK, and get charged customs and/or taxes less often than not. Definitely ask for Royal Mail delivery -- all the courier services are a sure fire way of getting charged. Canada Post is far more lenient. The less a package looks like commercial goods, the better your chances of flying under the radar. I ordered a pair of C&Js from Edwards of Manchester recently, which arrived as a brown-paper-wrapped package with my address written on it by hand, and although they had declared the full value of the shoes, I neither had to pay taxes nor customs. I'd take my chances.

On an aside - how did your Connistons hold up with the recent snowfall?

I recently got a pair of C&J shoes with dainite soles and they seemed to be up for the task.
