I personally like military style combat chinos, with flapped hip and back pockets, so your keys don't fall out while you are fighting Steven Segal hand-to-hand.
Same. Some sort of genuinely rugged fabric. Death to suspender buttons and Bill's (Old Man) Khakis.

Slim is a must (I can buy baggy chinos anywhere... there's a reason I haven't). I'll add another voice for gray. And actually, Get Smart, I would be all over that rusty burgundy color as well.

Grey or Khaki would be nice. That way they can be dressy and worn with almost any color shoes. I also vote for button down flap pockets and button flies. Flat front and slim fitting as well. To many wide legged chinos out there. Unfinished hems are probably the way to go just from a production standpoint.

I also agree not black. People from the Men's Clothing side of the forum would probably say that it is only for waiters or for the uninformed.

Agreed. I might be more interested in some canvas pants/workpants than another take on chinos. I know workwear is more EG territory than 5EP, but if we're discussing authenticity and bucklebacks, well, EG has already done that pretty well, no?

Not that I'd be uninterested in the ideas so far. If we're committed to cotton twill, shades of gray sounds good.

I don't want any throwback western wear, I want something that looks modern.

Must haves:
button fly
mid rise
unique fabric, not the same boring chino fabric
slight taper
slant pockets
no flaps

Colors:
light grey, charcoal, navy, black, even a nice burgundy

You are outnumbered, sir. Your say has henceforth been discounted.

I think Kronik was on with having some ridiculous detail that would put our stamp on it, like the MOP idea.

Suspender buttons, to me at least, go along with keeping things timelessly cool while antique. If 5EP's going for tradition (older chinos being cut from deadstock, using antique yarn, sticking with selvage, old-style henleys, etc.), then the buttons should be a welcomed addition.

And yes, I'd actually plan on using them.

+1 I also want medium rise, straight leg and flap pockets. As for colors, navy, beige, and brown are all I need. Lined waistband and pockets with some funky fabric would be cool. Raw, unwashed, if you dare.

I really don't like the buckle back idea. I have a pair of incotex chinos that came with the buckle back (ebay) and I had a tailor remove them. Too much uneccasary clutter and they aren't really functional, unless you plan on not wearing a belt.

I prefer a classic khaki color. I think the 5ep aesthetic all about interpretations of classic mens casual wear - I think that a rust or burgandy tone starts to get too far away from that. But how about a herringbone cotton? I love that look in old military surplus stuff.

How about lightweight cotton canvas? Halfway between rugged and dressy... and perhaps could be seen as using the historical material of jeans (considering this is the streetwear & denim forum).
