Ok, I just checked. All of my polka dot ties have a diagonal alignment. Not sure I've seen many polka dot ties with horizontal alignment or maybe I've never noticed it before.

Linen jacket, shirt and cap, knit tie, badly rumpled trousers.

This is very nice. Clean, simple, fits you well and you look like you are comfortable in it.

Curious to see how SF is going to react to today's (actually yesterday's) fit. It's fairly out-there.

Cox - is that jacket green and white or black and white? I'm assuming green because you chose a brown tie. I actually have that same square, but for some reason I don't think it is the right choice with the rest of the outfit.

Trousers are beige not white.

Beautiful jacket, Don. One of my faves from you.

@An Acute Style - I think it is that they are aligned vertically, not horizontally, that seems off.

... I think it's the alignment of the dots.

I very much agree that dots/spots/neats and all their kith & kin look best when arranged in diagonals. I've raised the point before. You will get some people strongly agreeing and some people never even noticing the alignment until its pointed out. It's always interesting to realise that we all see the world so differently.

Anyway, today:

Plus a couple more casual fits from recent days, not yet posted:

Like the shoes. You look a bit frumpy in the pic with the polo.

Rolled blue chino pic looks awesome. Good shoe choice there! Even if people here are going to point out bal vs blutcher. I like bals more in general, as the lines are so much cleaner.

Thanks. I hardly ever get to wear such light coloured shoes, so took the opportunity. The red polo is a bit golf coursey, I suppose.

By the way, for the entire thread: I just read that Anne Hollander died last week. Sad news. If you haven't read Seeing Through Clothes, I highly recommend it.

Couldn't take a pic before I left for the office today, so had to make do with indoor lighting. Stitchy et al, I found a higher vantage point for the camera/phone!

I am so bummed that Drake's only do 8cm ties now. I looked at the sale and there are so many ties I would buy if only they were wider :(

Just get them widened if it really makes a difference for you. It's a very simple operation - I did that many times with tiecrafters in the US before I came to my senses and found inner peace when it comes to tie width

I've only tried Drake's 8cm ties on once, in their Clifford St. store, but I have a few other ties that are closer to 8cm and I find all if them to be too narrow for me. I do have pics to illustrate this, but I am on my phone now and can't access my computer until tomorrow. Sorry!

Edit: seems like I could find some pics even on my phone. Perhaps not the best comparison, but should at least illustrate the problem.

Compare:
800

with:
800

First tie is 8cm, second is closer to 9.5cm. I strongly prefer the tie in the second pic.

i see what you mean, but imo the thinner tie is certainly in the range of nice for you and id not pass on a great tie of that width. ymmv. :)

Thanks for the comments, I agree that I am probably the one person that notice this (and care about it). I will have to live with not being able to buy ties directly from Drake's. Luckily places like Exquisite Trimmings still sell 9cm Drake's ties so I can still get them there :)

Odd jacket, odd vest, odd combo.

This jacket just arrived from eBay today. I need to lengthen the sleeves, but I think it fits well other than that. Planning for fall.

well, that really is the main thing. you have to be happy with how you look. not saying dressing like crap and being happy about it makes for dressing well, but within the scope of good, you have to enjoy it yourself, or else the whole endeavor is pointless.

I, for one, would like to see Clags try out a light tie like the one Tried and True suggested. I think it might work.
