This current film, which is characterized as a contemporary "La Dolce Vita",
is a veritable showcase of high-end Italian style. The protagonist, Jep, played
by Toni Servillo, seems to change his clothes about as often as the Duke of Windsor.
The result: a panorama well-cordinated outfits and a timely antidote to the Pitti
freakshow.

Have heard great things about the movie but didn't know there was a sartorial angle. Another reason to check it out, I suppose.

My Italian friends all rate it as the best movie of last year if not the best of recent years... I really do have to see it.

I saw it last night, and I absolutely loved it. Hadn't actually heard of it before, just decided I wanted to see a movie and it looked interesting from what I could see in the movie program, so I gave it a shot and I can tell you that the comparisons to la dolce vita are very well placed, though to be honest I liked this one a lot more than I liked la dolce vita, but it's the same kind of thing in that it doesn't so much have a plot, but rather it takes you through a series of scenes showing the sights, experiences, feelings and thoughts of the protagonists as he experiences beauty, joy and regret.

Wonderful music, a lot of very beautiful cinematography, some genuinely thought provoking musings of an aging cynic who loves beauty, and of course as a bonus a lot of great sartorial inspiration.

It's actually also quite funny at times as you see the jaded Jep consider the various absurdities surrounding him.

I think anyone with the kind of interests that would lead one to hang out here would enjoy this film a lot.

Also, there's this girl:

Another film starring Toni Servillo is Il Divo which is a biopic about the prominent Italian
politician Guiliio Andreotti. Servillo's portrayal displays the breadth of his talent,
for the Premier bore virtually no resemblance to Jep, neither physically, nor personally.
Sartorially, Il Divo dressed in the bland formality that went with his profession and disposition.
Nevertheless, an excellent film.

Having just watched it, I still can't get to the bottom of the maker of of Jep's glasses. One article has the costume designer, Daniela Ciancio, admit it's from Luxottica, but that's it.

Anyone here has any ideas?
