I live and work in downtown. It's a 20+ minute walk to and from the office in all sorts of weather ... windy, raining, snowing, etc. It's nearly impossible to drive or take a cab.) I have top coats, rain coats, and the typically casual coats. However, I don't have anything that holds up the cold, rain and wind and still looks acceptable with dress pants and a sport coat. I'd like something full-length or, at least, three-quarter. I'm only going to wear in the most bitter cold and/or heavy rain so I'll give a little on the looks for functionality. What do you suggest?

If you need to be all-around formal, a loden coat. Otherwise a barbour jacket with its nice furry detachable inside provides a decent insulation from the cold, is thoroughly waterproof, and is fairly acceptable with a suit.

If you want the real deal go to Purdey:

Great customer service and even better products. I have brought a heap of things from them - including a loden field coat and a leather vest.
