...I'd like to wear it hanging loose (no wrapped around) inside my half buttoned coat.

But my coat is a bit short and the scarf sticks out a bit below it.

¿Should I...

a. Wear it that way because it doesn't matter

b. Make cut the scarf one foot shorter

c. Wear my coat always open

d. Other possibilities or advice (...)

With my coat open it looks ok, I think. But when I button it and it sticks out below.... mmm I'm doubtful.

The idea is:

Or d, tie it around your neck four in hand.

This. Or even just a regular knot instead of a 4IH if you don't need to shorten it that much.

If you go for either knot option, you can leave the knot itself low down instead of up close to your neck, should you want to retain the look of the undone scarf underneath the jacket.

The only practical thing I'd note is that window of days where it's enough to just wear a scarf without an overcoat is fairly narrow, at least in my neck of the woods. I find I that either need neither, or both. And if you're wearing an overcoat, the scarf can't really peek out much from the bottom, if a middle button is done up.

Not really suitable for other than formal evening wear.

You could shorten it but don't wear it in the day.

VERY nice piece of advice! When I button the coat I can make a knot to the scarf at the level of my belly. I'll try it

I was hesitant between a white Johnstons' wool scarf or this white silk scarf. I liked the thin-shoft quality of silk

But also note that white silk scarves are usually black tie accessories. Use caution when wearing in other contexts.

I have noticed that thin, light, glossy scarfs suit quite well to dark thick coats. Things like this:

I think that quality of fabric is called 'satin' in English and "raso" in Spanish, and it is not limited to silk.
