I'd also say...I don't really pay attention to release dates. So if you've got something from your area that makes it to chicago but only rarely...odds are I'd still be super happy about it.

I've got some awesome stuff lined up. Think I will at least wait until thursday when I think a certain brewery makes their chicago deliveries to see if I can find something else (not that I don't have enough beer in the fridge already).

Now I have to find a suitable shipping container...luckily I snagged a bunch of good **** in cans so it will ship nicely. For bottles, I seemed to have good luck with gallon zip locks (in case of breakage) and some bubble pack...I just gotta find a box the right size. IIRC, when I sent indesertum a bunch of stuff, I think I might have double boxed with a slightly larger box and a layer of bubble wrap since sharp impacts are the worst thing that could happen.

Keep in mind, FedEx asks for measurements, but unless the box is getting to be appliance sized, they don't charge based on size, only on weight. So you don't have to cram everything into a tiny box, you can use lots of lightweight packing materials in a bigger box for basically the same shipping price.

Can easily fit 18 12oz bottles or 12 12oz +3 22 oz into a 12x12x12 once they're individually wrapped in bubble wrap. Then you can out that box inside a 14x14x14 with packing peanuts and its practically bomb proof.

What are these specific sized boxes you speak of?

I'm counting on the 2 years of amazon deliveries that have piled up in my office to make this work!

These are worth the $15ish they run for the peace of mind that comes with shipping using them IMO.

inner box packed and crammed in the fridge...bunch of fresh beers in there that really should stay cold...hopefully a they have a quick journey and the double cardboard plus packaging (bubble wrap is a great insulator) keeps them from getting hot anywhere.

Will weigh and ship from work tomorrow.

Additional tip: You can fit 3 12oz bottles, wrapped in bubble pack, in a big ziplock bag. That way, if something breaks, it doesn't get out (and I've seen stories of UPS pulling wet/dripping packages, inspecting, and refusing to deliver...dunno about fedex). If you are double boxing, you can also put the inner box inside a garbage bag and tie it off.

Gotta' pack and ship Thurs. Does FedEx supply boxes like USPS? Have bubble wrap and will use garbage bag over inner box as suggested.

Pretty sure fedex only supplies boxes for the "express" services which are probably too expensive for beer. (just like you can only get things like priority flat rate boxes free from USPS...not boxes for first class mail).

My options online were something like
$17-20 for fedex ground(quoted at 2-days)
$40 for for fedex express saver (3 days...although if ground came in at 2, I doubt Saver would be more)
$50 for 2-day express
$130 for overnight (or $177 for first overnight).

....so it is probably not worth it just for the free boxes. UPS was in the same range but marginally more expensive for everything. USPS was far more expensive than fedex (since beer is heavy and they are lazy I guess).

Edit: this was for a 19lb box. Some of you guys might weigh less (I may or may not have mistakenly had a slightly higher target price in my head when I was packing the box), especially if you are shipping valuable options. I think there are 225+ ounces of beer in there plus glass/aluminum/packing.

Sounds like using my own boxes and FedEx ground is the way to go. Thanks for the info.

Super busy week, going to grab a few finishing touches Saturday, so I will be shipping my box on Monday. I am aware that's one day past deadline, but wanted to make my intentions known!
