Tough choice but I go for the Carter, or the Edward Green Ecton. It's a great Windsor-approved twist on a classic, and the white/brown combination just has the right touch of contrast on the derby, and is rounded out by the sublime split toe. The Stern is a great twist on a combination many prefer on a wingtip, but I very slightly dislike how the lines seem to run counter to the shoe's sleekness and make the cap look abbreviated (unlike, say, the Mackay). Maybe I'd like this better if the suede were in a very light brown. Still, it looks great on your feet in even jeans, as long as you get over how striking they initially look if you haven't worn a lot of spectators. (Of course, in true aportnoy fashion, "both" remains the best answer.) Gentlemen: Left: Ralph Lauren Purple Label Carter in white suede and burnt pine, 89 last Right: Ralph Lauren Purple Label Stern in white suede and burnt pine, 89 last

Perhaps an actual "poll" would have been ideal here.

The Stern.

Perhaps the real question would be why someone would try to pass off his A-Es as EGs?

Is it just me, or are Allen Edmonds just about the cheapest looking shoes known to modern man? They always look a hundred steps worse than even a midline British shoe and this model is particularly bad with that top stitching on the apron which looks like a fourthgrader with a needle was set loose on it. AE does not know subtlety at all.

Where are the AEs you are talking about?

Shouldn't you be studying your Bar-Bri?

BarBri? No way am I funding that monopoly. Besides, I'm not bothering. I'm going to be an academic.

Okay, okay, so I guess I should've tried taking the photo with RLPL trees inside the AE derbies? Lesson learned.

So what is more sick...

1. Being an student, to spend a lot of money in luxury high end shoes
2. Try to pass your cheap shoes as luxury ones on a forum
