The Lange is lovely. If you are open to other options, specifically JLC, I'd also suggest having a look at the Reverso Duo in whichever size suits you best. I tried the Grande version in the Bond St. boutique in London this week in both stainless and red gold and it's a really classy piece. There's a tactile thrill in flipping over the entire mechanism to reveal the second time zone and it gives you two distinct looks (white face and black face) in one watch. It's about $11,000.
The JLC Duo is a fantastic watch. I opted for the version posted in Omega M's post for a couple of reasons; the Grande had more wrist presence than the standard Duo. Also while I liked the simplicity of the newer Grande Ultrathin Duoface (ref. 3788570), I felt that the dial detailing on the earlier model spoke to me more. I like how the light plays across the surface of guilloche, and the "arch" date window...Almost architectural. Here are a few photos of mine, taken on different days:

I'm not a fan of a rubber strap on nice watches...

Me neither. And I'm not sure I like this in general: I mean, it's neat and everything, but until I get used to it, all those Cartier design cues look incongruous to me. I kind of wish they'd gone for a clean sheet of paper with this - it feels like a Ballon Bleu in jeans andIi'm not digging it. Maybe it will just take a while to internalise the idea of a Cartier diver.

I didn't have much to share on this thread but I recently received a pass down Tag Heuer. Its almost 30 years old and it needed repair and it just came back today.

Yeah I thought about a Duo, but not sure I'm that keen on the black face and the need to reverse it to see the second time zone is less convenient than the Lange. When I'm jet lagged and between meetings in Tokyo I'd like to be able to just glance at the watch to see whether to call the kids.

I am in the market for a Reverso though (probably a Classique or Grand Taille) on the spurious ground that when reversed it'd be the safest way of wearing a nice watch on my cycle ride to work. :)

Ahhh the good ol' days. For a watch-a-holic these can be the golden years. Don't get me wrong, my wife has been fantastic about this obsession and most of my collection has been obtained during our time together, but I completely feel you.

Throw kids into the mix(?) and it becomes a real balancing act for most of us.

Seeing as how you're young, mobile, and successful I almost want to tell you to go all out with reckless abandon. Almost.. hint hint.

+1

Yeah - once kids come to the equation, behaviour totally shifts and your start doing a lot more "estate" planning. ;) While you can afford it, why not? You'll have a longer window over which to enjoy your watch(es), too.

Oh I HAVE to buy two watches at a time, of comparable value, complication and/or design, so that I can pass them on to my two kids without any statements like "hey how come she got one and I did not" and "hey how come hers is better?!?"

Lovely excuse right?

The last time I was in Wempe with Frills and he was looking for something similar to his Nautilus to eventually pass down to his other daughter to keep things fair, I almost asked him to adopt me.

Trying to buy a house in the Bay Area. BLNR dreams will have to be put on hold. Probably all watch buying for a bit... I was thinking I'd console myself with an older GMT/sub.

Ahahaha!

Dayum. The wife is still torn between the LN and the LV. She has yet to make a decision but it appears my wrist has cast its own unsolicited vote:

Bay Area homes are quite an investment these days! Good luck and let us know how things go!

Was in the area a few days ago myself:

Frills, why not a GMT? If you have the ND Sub and are getting the new SD, I would vote GMT to switch it up slightly. But if you're feeling the green, go for it. Remember what a wise frog once said, it ain't easy being green.

Good suggestion; it would work well in that rotation and the blue/black version could add a bit of colour and variety.
