Best oven?

Who makes the best oven for homes?

I think that once you get into the very high-end lines, it's largely a matter of personal preference. I like Wolf the best, but my wife insisted on Viking.

whatever brand you choose: go with gas.

Whatever you do, don't go with GE. Their customer service is horrendous.

Of the big box brands, I'd go with Kenmore or Whirlpool. Whirlpool is now making many of Kenmore's parts.

If you'd like the Consumer Reports listings let me know.

Why do you say that?

I don't think the distinction between gas and electric ovens is as clear as the obvious difference between gas and electric ranges, unless we are talking about something like a salamander. I've used both and they both work very well, if of good quality. Mine is a Thermador. ~ Huntsman

The advantage of gas here is using the unit when we have power outages during storms in the winter.

We have both Wolf and Thermador ovens and they are both fine. I would probably get a Miele next time as my experience with them (washer/dryer, dishwasher, vacuums) has been better than either Wolf or Thermador as far as quality, reliability and, above all, service. Also, I have used their ovens at friends houses and they are fantastically easy to operate. They were not really on the market when we built our kitchen, and I wish that they had been.

Have you ever tried the Viking?

not since I tried them out when we were remodeling our kitchen. They were very similar to the Wolf IIRC.

I have a dual fuel Thermador and love it. The burners are gas (with electric ignition) and the oven is electric. Among our friends, some have and love GE, Viking, etc.

I suppose suggesting the Betty Crocker Easy-Bake Oven isn't much help.

Electric ovens are better for experienced cooks as they allow proper temperature control. My offer on a new house has been accepted 2 days ago and being used to higher level of domestic comfort, we are not going to move in until complete remodel. I am looking forward to entire process and will try to document the developments. As far as appliances go, I have my eyes set on Miele. 3 fulls baths...that's another story altogether. God, help me...
