Any tall boots that I own with leather soles have been Topy'd.  While I would prefer a full synthetic sole for all-weather wear, I won't let that get in the way of purchasing an otherwise terrific pair of boots.

I agree, but the extra cost of ~$100 has to be taken into consideration.

That's extortionate!!

I can do it for you before shipping the shoes out for an extra £20. You would simply want the extra rubber piece added to the forefoot of the sole correct? Your standard topy?

You would just have to wait a little while longer to receive the shoes but would not have to spend that kind of money... you can always email me directly for further questions should you like.

This sounds great! I am just finishing up my studies and are (hopefully) in need for some new shoes soon. Getting a regular topy here in Norway is way overpriced; probably a result of cartel behaviour. Will certainly take you up on your offer some time soon.

Justin, what's your opinion on a topy vs. metal toe tap vs. normal leather sole when it comes to how fast it wears/how good/bad it is for the shoe?

Hey YD! Have you read this post?

I am a traditionalist in this regard and would never add anything other than toe taps to my soles. I am also a fan of galoshes as harsh wet weather and snow will tear through anything but them....

as per them being bad for your shoes (topy's) well I am not a believer in the idea that your shoe's soles need to breathe either....but they can throw off balance which I personally don't like....but if you have a good cobbler, he should be able to prevent that to the best of his ability...

Yikes! Shop around my friend - that price is way high. $35 is what I pay.

And if Justin can do it for you (as I just noticed above) at a very reasonable price - and no doubt do it properly - that is a win / win situation.

Norwegian cobblers are 99/100 a shoe repair and dry cleaner in one, with unreasonably high prices for the crappy job they usually do. The few "real" cobblers are insanely overpriced. I love leather soles, but with half a year with snow and the rest with sporadic rain, rubber soles are a lot more enduring.

Thank you, Justin. I'll stick with toe taps for now.

Need to come out with a new monotone oxford next Spring and contemplating between the 3 below. Which one has your vote? (for single color shoe, think all black, all brown or all burgundy etc). Going to place my order next week!

Thanks,

Justin
