Rolex-like homage watches: where to buy?

I'd like to buy a Rolex Day-Date homage (not some shady "replica", I don't care about the Rolex logo...) for my father, but I can't find any retailer online. All I can find is gossip and endless forum verbosity that never tell me where to send the money. Any idea? We just love the design, but have other projects for our $30,000.

Pick a model and then search Omega, Citizen or even Seiko. All four companies make watches that are visually similar and are of good quality. In some respects the Seiko Astron, might be the most accurate watch in the entire world. They all tend to be cheaper then Rolex and are not something a person should be ashamed to wear.
If you are looking for the solid god Rolex Presidential model for $200, good luck. There are a lot of fakes.and plenty of people willing to take your money, but you are unlikely to wind up (pun intended) with a decent watch.
If you have your heart set on a Rolex, you can try some of the watch forms and look for a vintage one, I saw a gold filled (?) 1950s model with a leather band the other day going for $2000. It looked pretty cool, but I wouldn't spend that much on a vintage piece without my jeweler looking at it.
Hope this helps.

I've got a Seiko 5 which wants to be a Rolex when it grows up. I didn't realize that when I bought it -- I didn't get that the fluted bezel was so strongly associated with the Datejust.

I paid about $60 for mine, but the current Amazon price isn't bad at all. Try searching for variations on the model number to find it in other finishes -- that usually works for Seiko 5s on Amazon.

You can buy a vintage Rolex for considerably less money, especially now. A vintage submariner can be bought for between 4 and $6000.

Generally speaking, there exists a watch which represents good quality and original design in almost every price range. You just have to look for it.

Invicta has some Rolex clones on Groupon today for $45. In photos they look very close. I have heard their CS is iffy, but for $45 what do you expect?:)

Or just buy a used Tudor which is essentially a Rolex homage made by Rolex.

Someone should start a thread nominating the best watches available at different price points. That might be more helpful than indulging Rolex envy.

Now there's a well informed and intelligent comment.

How is any fake of anything better than the real thing.

That's just plain idiotic.
