So I recently started checking out sufu and styleforum, and I'm a crazy ass fashion/streetwear noob right now.

I used to be one of those kids who wore baggy pants, and then sagged them! oh man, double oversize....

Anyhow, because of that, I also bought shirts that were oversized too because i thought it looked dumb if i wore a normal sized shirt with such huge pants.

Now I have a dilemna!! I finally have jeans that fit (514s and 501s for now....) and all my shirts are too big.

Do you think its ok if shirts hang past your belt line, and maybe your crotch?
How far is to far??

I'd say about 1/4 of my shirts are a little past my crotch area, about 1/2 are halfway down the zipper/buttons, and the rest are just past the belt/waist.

The reason I'm asking is because in the waywt threads, everyone always has shirts that lets you see the belt! Especially cheap....and he always looks damn good haha

A shirt that hangs below your crotch is a dress. Just go buy like 2 3 packs of v neck undershirts.

you can always sag your jeans to reveal some belt
?

i don't think an oversized shirt is bad, per se, you just have to have to do it right

but if you feel weird about it, replace them with smaller shirts

whatever makes you more comfortable

Could you embellish on why you wore that baggy style to begin with? No trying to drag you down, just curious as to what the thought pattern is there...

Did you really think it looked cool? Were you just succumbing to peer pressure? Was it more comfortable? Girls dug it? What was it?

Shoot, I use to wear XL and XXL all the time along with my K-Swiss and Tommy. Kids that I hung out with always thought that those were the coolest things you could wear.

When I was a sophmore, I had seniors make fun of me because they could see my belt if I put my arms up...

I'm happy to say that I have been Tommy and K-Swiss free since my senior year in high school...

How do people sag without showing ass, pubes or your grundies? I never sag, nor do I wear ultra low rise jeans, yet I feel that if I went any lower, I'd be showing half ****** whenever I sit down.

Nothing like their modern stuff, but 10-15 years ago K-Swiss used to make some awesome tennis shoes. And by tennis shoes, I mean shoes actually made for playing tennis.

Phew... good to know I wasn't the only one who wore crap that was 3 sizes too large back in HS. I remember shopping for **** then having to explain to my mom why I needed baggy jeans and shirts when I got home.

But you guys are telling me why. Is it simply what you thought looked good? What you thought was cool or what others thought was cool?

Admittedly I find the look repulsive and never ever bought something that wasnt my size, although one certainly has the right to wear what they choose.

Part of it was I didn't know how things should fit properly. I know it's kind of common sense now, but back then, I didn't have a clue. Also, it was the time of grunge, so loose, baggy fitting stuff was cool.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

It seems like bandwagonesque summed up my thoughts. I just didn't know what was right. Also, i'm part asian, and when i was little my mom always got me weird ass sweatpants and **** that i wore to school, so i finally decided I wanted to get my own clothes. I saw kids wearing baggy jeans or sagged jeans and kinda liked it back then and just went with it.

Now after getting into fashion and stuff, I realize how dumb I looked.

Even now I don't have the best of fits, but I think I might grow still...I dunno, plus I try to not spend a lot even though I'm dying to get some new jeans.

I always like the kind of asymmetrical look you get when you pair slim/tight jeans with a larger shirt. I don't think the large shirts would look as good with 501s that are regular fit, but maybe if you had some 511s you could pair those two together for an interesting look. But I think it takes some extra confidence (or just a don't give a **** attitude) and style to look good like that.

It depends though. Just wearing an xl tee with slim/tight jeans can look like that popular style for girls where they wear skinny jeans with a short dress or long blouse over. That's the last thing you want. At least i'd hope.

I've seen people wear skinny jeans and baggy(but not super long) tops like sweatshirts and it look pretty good. I think it was insidertrading on sufu who had a perfect example when he wore diors with this baggy raf simons sweatshirt. Cheap wore a regular fit sweatshirt with slim jeans and it works.
