How to deal with scratches?

I have an old and much loved pair of Byron. I am not sure how, I managed to get them some nasty scratches at the front of the toe cap. There are a couple of white spots where the colour is completely gone. I applied cream and wax but did not do much good. Any ideas? Should I take them to a cobbler? I am trying to postpone AEs recrafting for later...
