I've had no occasion to where a suit in the last 7 years....no one died and no one got married. I really don't know where to even start looking for something nice that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg. Any help or direction would be nice.
thanks

Three questions I can think of:

1 How much time do you have?
2 Budget?
3 Where do you live?

Drizzt and perhaps others have posted relatively favorable things about the suits you can get at target for what, $100 or so? If this is something you'll wear once (and maybe again if someone dies or gets married), that might be a decent option. If you make sure it fits well and pair it with decent shirt, tie, shoes, you'll look fine.
If it's something you think you're going to wear on a regular basis, you might want to step it up a bit and get something that's likely to hold up well to multiple wearings.
Also, what's your time frame, and in your budget consitutes not costing an arm and a leg? If you know your sizing you can find good deals online, but you pretty much have to be willing to wait until the right deal comes along.

in all seriousness,

if you head over to a premium macys store somewhere near you, you may still be able to get a hugo boss or a Hugo HB suit for very cheap.

last week and maybe still this week, they are selling at 199 each.

it is not the most favorable brand name for suits or anything around here, but for starters , this is not too bad, and it is also something you can use for other things like social events and perhaps work.

With a $400 dollar budget, you should be able to get a solid suit and get it tailored to fit you well. Do you know your size? If you're a fairly standard size, you shouldn't have too much trouble. That might even give you enough lead time to buy something online in time to have it tailored if you can easily find something in your size.
