The pairs of flannel trousers I swear by are the PRL Preston pants made in Italy. Here is a pair for instance. I have them in a variety of colors and they are fantastic. Trim fit, flat front, unhemmed. I snap up every pair I can find in my size and have never paid more than $80 for a pair NWT.

+1. I've got a few pairs and they are great.

As well as eBay, also have a look for trousers on Sierra Trading Post. I got a pair of made-in-Canada Riviera flannel trousers from STP a couple of years back and they are fantastic - beautiful fit and great construction. I think that they cost $90 + shipping at the time and STP quite often have sales or there are voucher codes floating around.

In terms of quality/construction would you guys say Brooks Brothers, Howard Yount, and Epaulet are all on a similar level.

Epaulet and Howard Yount (Made in USA) are made by the same factory, so the construction is equal. However, Epaulet has a better fit, in my opinion, and very nice fabrics.

I can't speak for Brooks Brothers.

my opinion,

HY=EP>>>>>>BB

Ha, fair enough. My main preference is just the fit, which is specific to me. There's a couple of details - like the belt buckle loop - on the HY that I really do like.

To those who say they prefer the fit of the Epaulet pants, is it mainly because they are slimmer?
Yes. I still have to get Epaulet slimmed a bit but the HW made in US ones are really "full" on me.

My waist is 28, but my legs and seat are too muscular for the Epaulet Walt. So I greatly prefer HY's made-in-USA cut. I have not yet tried Epaulet's Rudy cut, but I will soon. It all depends on your body and your preferences.

Is there any place to get looser fit pants, perhaps even with pleats, at a price/quality range similar to HY/Epaulet?

I also have muscular legs and I'm growing out of my "slim-fit=better" phase.
