Need to select a work phone (and carrier) from this list...

Here are my options:

AT&T - iphone 4s, HTC inspire, HTC One X, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy s3

Sprint - iphone 4s

T-mo - HTC One X, HTC Amaze

VZW - iphone 4s, Motorola Droid razr max, Samsung Galaxy s3

Preferences: Small (I'll still be carrying a personal phone as well), good battery, easy to type emails on, responsive OS, reliable, good reception and call clarity

Don't care about: Apps, giant fancy screen, GPS, music

I actually was hoping for a BB 9930 (and it's physical keyboard), but BB is not an option.

I'm inclined to go w/ something on Verizon's network, unless there's a good reason not to. Waiting for iPhone 5 is not an option. Just having them cover my personal device (and using that for work) is not an option.

Any suggestions? Have to decide on this today.

Mouse! Currently Samsung Epic 4g. I hate it. It's an unreliable POS that has to be rebooted once a day, and Samsung is crap in terms of OS updates. Soon to be iPhone 5, but I have never owned an iPhone before. But I am familiar with Android, and will soon be familiar with ios, so no real reason from that perspective to choose one or the other. It's too bad there's no Nexus option, since a stock Android OS with quick updates would be great.

Kind of considering the razr maxx since it's thin and supposedly has good battery life.

If you are planning on buying an iPhone "5" for personal use, then I would probably recommend doing something different for work. Then you get the best of both words. Have head good things about the HTC ONE X, but how is AT&T's reception in your area? I know they are weak in some cities.

Been good, man! Just started a new job yesterday; working remotely. So I'm in the process of going through all the usual orientation and setup and whatnot, except having to do it from the comfort of my home. How are things with you?

I think you're right about going with Android. Plus it would kill me to pick the 4s when we're so close to the 5. I just don't like that some of the new Android phones are ENORMOUS. My mother just got the galaxy S3, and I have no idea why anyone would want to carry that around in their pocket. I think the One X may be larger than I'd prefer as well, but I'll take a look. As for AT&T, I haven't heard anything recently, but I know their service used to be pretty awful. I'd feel more comfortable sticking with VZW (my personal phone is Sprint, which is why I'm not all that up to speed with other carriers' offerings - SERO ftw).

Know anything about the RAZR? I have a favorable opinion of motorola, but I haven't owned one in a while. My star-tac was the ****, though.

Have not heard good things about the new Android RAZR, but maybe someone on the forum has first hand experience. I'm not a fan of the Galaxy S3's looks at all. The ONE X at least has an interesting design. The screen quality is higher too on it. Your best bet is to hit a few stores and try them out. Just keep in mind the settings may not be optimal because someone might have been messing with them.

I miss having a SERO plan. Gave it up some years ago when I switched to ATT for the iPhone 3G. Does SPRINT even still offer it?

Congrats on the new job! Ever worked from home before? I bet that will be a big change. I'm doing well. Still at the same job, but am looking around for something else. No strong leads yet.

Thanks! Have not worked from home (at least for any sustained length of time - a few days here and there), but so far I'm loving it. Hopefully I will not become (any more) socially awkward as a result. I did not shower this morning and certainly am not wearing pants right now.

I'm grandfathered in on SERO, but don't think you've been able to sign up for new accounts for a few years. When they finally let people use the cool new phones, the price jumped $20, but $50 a month for what you get is still a damn good deal.

Checked online, and it seems that VZW still has the best reception in my area. And I don't like Samsung, so that's leaving me with the iPhone 4s and the Razr Maxx. Think I'm going to go w/ the Moto, unless someone has a strong reason not to. The battery is HUGE (3300 mAH), and it's not any thicker than the iPhone. Certainly taller and wider, but I'll deal with that I guess. Would like to have the LTE, and I'm pretty sure I'd crack the iPhone eventually if I didn't use a case with it - Razr has a kevlar back vs. the glass on iPhone. Camera and screen suck, but that's not the end of the world for what I'll be using it for.

Galaxy S III on Verizon would be my first choice, but the phone definitely isn't small.

iPhone 4S on Verizon or Sprint for my second (smaller) choice.

I know. I'm just ******* with you. The reviews on the Razr suck though. Samsung is Samsung. All their products are ****, yet somehow they're still worth buying. Apple is your best bet, but not on Sprint. I had a hell of a ******* time getting reception and data while I was in Philly. Don't you remember our GPS adventures?

What reviews are saying razr maxx sucks? The ones I've seen have been pretty positive. The stuff that it gets dinged for (not a great camera, not a great screen, not 720p) aren't really things that I care about. The battery is supposed to be awesome, as is the signal strength/call quality.

True, I suppose, that its greatest flaws are in the things you don't need. Still, I don't trust any Motorola phone, under any circumstance. I'd go for the Galaxy myself. Why the **** do you need to go 2 days without charging your phone? And why settle for a POS screen?

Lulz, two years ago you told me not to buy a Samsung phone, and I did anyway, and I hate it.

It's not really a POS screen. It's just not as nice as the new, cutting edge stuff. And it's not an issue of going two days without charging; my current phone can't make it until lunchtime with moderate to heavy use after charging all night. A fancy new screen doesn't look so nice when the phone dies. If I'm out visiting clients/at a conference/etc, I don't want to have to recharge my phone during the day.

To clarify, I've looked at the specs, and based on the specs, I want the Razr Maxx (even though it pisses me off to type such a stupid name). What I'm really asking is if there's anything that the specs/reviews don't tell me that would keep me from buying it (crappy reception, poor call quality, poor build quality, freezes constantly, etc.). As an added bonus, apparently ICS on the Razr is closer to stock ICS than on Samsung and HTC's offerings - though I see that some people have had issues with ICS on the Razr.

It's annoying that the Razr HD is coming out soon, but nothing I can do about it.

Have you read the user reviews on Amazon and other purchasing sites? Those might be helpful.

I'd state my record for never being wrong, but you know that already. Also, I think you could pull the 2 iPhone thing. Just get them in different colors. Or, just use the work phone as the personal for a month or so and then get the updated Galaxy Nexus when that comes out Sept-Oct for your personal. Actually, I really like that idea.
