I'm really at a loss to understand how you guys aren't seeing how hideous that jacket is...
No offense intended, of course, LTI. I think i'm either lacking what taste is required in here or you have all become blind. Which is it?

im going with the former. i think it is very nice, and tasteful, gun club SC. what be da problem?

I would change the square. As I've parroted over and over again: I really hate the white square and white shirt combination. It just cuts too sharp and forces other elements into alienation.

I'm so glad you put it this way.

Gun clubs are sorta fuddy-duddy by nature. I like the cooler city-colored blues/grays versions a bit better than the ochres/browns/mustards. I have no idea if either are good or bad taste,. but they are a classic pattern for sport coats.

Really like that combo, Manton.

I really like this top combo and the coat is very nice, but, IMO too short on you.

Thank you. As to length: it covers my behind. I have long arms.

This one is the best in my opinion. Very nice use of the gold pocket square.

Thanks. :)

I like both combinations colour-wise. The first is a bit more autumn-like and the second more spring-like in my eyes. I'm not yet wholly convinced that neat print ties work well with gun clubs but that is a tiny detail.

Autumn vs. spring wasn't quite what I had in mind, but I see what you mean. More opportunities to wear the coat and more combinations to be tried. Yay! :)

Please also post your new Drapers DB here!

Yeah, yeah... I'll see what I can do. Maybe another comparison?

Second. I like the green and gold with brown combo. Are you seven feet tall?

Thank you. I'm a 'mere' 6 ft. 5 in.

@LTI
How about tie from the first with pocketsquare from the second (or what color is the small pattern in the first tie?).

Colour in the first tie: white and light blue flowers with red hearts.

LTI, I would personally do tie 1 with square 2. I think I'd like that better than either 1 or 2.
Between these two, my vote goes to 1. I am just not feeling tie 2.

Thanks Prof and gdl: I hadn't imagined tie 1 and square 2. I may yet try that.

I'm really at a loss to understand how you guys aren't seeing how hideous that jacket is...

No offense taken. I asked for comments. May I ask what you find hideous about the jacket: the fabric? the cut? the pockets?

I think that jacket is great - but def has a warm, fall feel to it, so it looks at odds with other elements that are more spring or summery. I personally prefer to wear sport coats in a business casual way, so I would have worn this without a tie and with a blue oxford and slim khakis, but that's just my preference.

The cut looks nice, although I feel like it might need a bit more casual of an outfit to go with it.

After reading Parker and GDL's thoughts I do think that the tone is just a bit too warm for my personal tastes. Perhaps i'd like it more in the context of more warm/texture-y materials, like some type of knit tie and some brown cords (?). But I don't have experience with that type of pattern so that's just my unrefined instinct talking.

i too prefer the cooler color gun club, but i still like the above one quite well.

This is quite nice, but I feel like the outfit deserved a bottle green or a brown square to finish it off nicely

That would also look nice, gdl, but the white linen gives the look a lightness which seems appropriate for the season.
